It might well be on the Discworld that there are several ways to play Thud. Standard wooden Thudboards with carved troll and dwarf figures might be found at Thud clubs throughout the major cities near Ankh-Morpork. Carved stone boards would probably be seen less often but shouldn't be rare and some of the more upmarket participants certainly have purpose-built furniture incorporating Thudboards within tables, divans, desks and so forth. But the Roundworld is not without its possibilities.

In spite of the absence of the skills of such stalwarts as Leonard of Quirm or BS Johnson, Esq., the Roundworld seems to have managed to implement a modified version of playing board games over the clacks with mediocre results. Utilising this, a pair of enterprising gentlemen (in the loosest sense of the term) have brought an entirely different form of Thudplay to the Roundworld. This consists of players using online Thud playing boards to play each other across vast distances, but with immediacy. Moves happen right away and games can take on an urgency and resolution unknown to the clacks-playing aristocracy on the Discworld. One could, with great reason, assume that most Discworld players participate in person, i.e. they play against their opponent there and then in situ. Some of the more prosperous, or powerfully connected, Thud players are presumed to take advantage of certain convenient, and of course expensive, new Discworld technologies to play against opponents who are, themselves personally, in another location. This might be on the other side of the Ankh, or in, say, Pseudopolis, Überwald or the Agatean empire and normally done using the clacks. This is known throughout Roundworld as Forum Thud and on the Disc as "Assuredly Expensive". The Roundworld has its own analogue of online Thud, which works on similar principles. It is said to operate using "Thud Control Process/Imp-Provisioned" (TCP/IP) and has an illustrious history and the participation of various Roundworld Thudmeisters, novices and players of varying degrees of skill.
