What gets me is when I click on a forum with an obscure and therefore promising name only to find that it is in german. (Oh the horror). So in the interest of ...segregating... these posts and making organisation that much easier for the uncultured among us [me] could we come to an agreement like all german forum topics have a (De) at the front or something? I don't begrudge the germanoids their forums and I think it's great to have a sub-cultus here to prolong the whatever, I just don't like having my ego deflated.
-cheers
P.S. Obviously if the topic has a title like Mein Deutch thema it doesn't brook further identification
P.P.S. in retrospect it probably isn't that important to start a whole new topic but I'm not rubbing all this out.

Re: (GB) separation of the germanoids
I think that's a fairly valid point. Perhaps the ultimate solution would be to let you pick which forums are included in the "Recent Comments" column. That way you'd also be able to exclude areas that don't interest you, as well, and when other language-specific forums are added you could ignore them as well if you don't speak the relevant language.
Dunno how doable that would be for Messrs Morgan and Alley, but it's an idea.

Re: (GB) separation of the germanoids
i must admit i do find the german forums very annoying, but before i get branded as a racist; I dont think at all that it the germans fault as they are only enjoying themselves as we are and i am sure they feel the same way about our forums sometimes.
anyway i think it would be gr8 if mr scrubs idea was acted on so the people who cannot speak german can exclude german forums from their list thing
Re: (GB) separation of the germanoids
yo all you germanboids,i is a semi-germanoid meself,so i understand that people don't understand what you're saying.the [de] thing sounds like a good plan, but there is a german forum thingy already where all the german thingies are put.

Re: (GB) separation of the germanoids
this is true but the problem is that no mattetr which forum group they are in, they all appear on the recent comments lists and it doesn't say which forum it's from.
I think we should be able like ms said set which topics we want to be updated on and there should be a special symbol to tell u if someone has replied to /your/ comment or added since you last visited.

Fancy though Sergeant Lettuce complaining about sections he doesn't understand. There were times past, counted in days rather than months, when quite a lot of us would have cheered if threads had a (Sergeant Lettuce!!!)-notice, or (ook!!!) for that matter, so we could ignore them.
Sorry mates, you DO have a point, but I had to say it.

Hospitality, gentlemen, hospitality!
We've just been the subject of immensely wonderful hospitality in France, The Netherlands and Germany, including from some of the august contributors from this topic.
So let me say this very clearly: far be it for me to say that one part of our community has to take their own time to prepend their posts with something so that the English-speaking contingent can be convenienced at the expense of others.
C'est ne pas??

Re: (GB) separation of the germanoids
I'm not saying issue a golden bull commanding them to prepend their posts at the inconvenience of five buttons but it was more a request that /something/ may be done. I'm not being inhospitable, I love german and intend to learn it anyway soon, but it is just annoying to keep accidently finding yourself in a german forum, however, I would be happy to prepend my posts with (GB) in stead so that english speakers know they can click on it and be able to understand its content if you think that's a better solution until customised post update lists are hopefully made.
similarly I'm sure if anyone else spoke magyar (Hungarian) and i started making seemingly english posts with magyar content others would get irked eventually so I would mark them as a courtesey to others. obviously this is less essencial as it seems half the people here speak german and so it is a de-facto language but still...
or maybe we can have like a text annalyser and if it recognises a certain amount of words in a language in the post it will automatically post a little flag next to the topic title to let others know what they need to speak in order to contribute. So far we could use English. German and Africaans flags maybe evn french. somethuing like that so we avoid the nastiness of actually having to do extra work because of the language(s) you use.

I think that's making it a little more difficult than it needs to be - just having a few lines of code that add "De" to the beginning of the title of any post from the German forum would do the job (perhaps only adding that tag to the title when it's in the Recent Comments bar).
As I mentioned earlier, there's a more extendable concept, but this way would be much simpler to imlement I guess...
