Day 30: Follow the tape! Follow the TAPE!

Admin

Thud needs completing by Oct first. But one of our important clients' databases has messed up on the US server, and needs fixing, which could take days.

Meanwhile I'm sitting here with my throbbing head in my hands, despite the fact that even my hair feels tender and achey to the touch. Someone is smashing on the wall behind me with a hammer, as they have been for the last seven and a half hours. They occasionally take breaks of a minute or two, to wheel the rubble out, I guess, but that just makes it more noticeable when they start up again.

My stomach, in the meantime, is busy gurgling and tying itself in knots.

I got two hours' real sleep last night, despite forgoing any caffeine other than my morning coffee yesterday, wearing earplugs in bed, getting an early night, and having the fan onto cool myself and provide background noise. Night before, I tried all that plus sleeping tablets too: didn't work worth a damn either. I'm exhausted, I'm sick, I just need one decent night's sleep and I'll be FINE again...

And what sleep I did manage to get was AFTER the banging started next door at 8am, because it silenced my halfasleep mind which was working itself into a state about the people who're all after me because they think I have the one cent black on magenta (a famous and valuable stamp) even though I've already sealed it inside a computer tape and sent it back to the legitimate owner (computer tape because I'm still 14, it's the 80s, and I have my Sinclair Spectrum which loaded programs from tape). I kept yelling at them "follow the tape!".

And I'm not even sure where that strange half-dream delusion came from, but it kept me worried and tossing and turning all night, like last time I was ill, and the people who weren't really there kept getting me to argue with them about evolution. I should write out the full plot of the deludream, sometime, it made a gripping yarn, at least in my fevered head in the darkness.

So, I think I'll go out to the chemist's (US: Pharmacist) and get me some chems (and pharms, too!)

I dont think there's anything I can do except comiserate and hope the builders have a sudden stroke of inspiration to develop the silent hammer, but I will do both of those...

I'd offer a night's sleep at my house where it not for the facts that a) it's my parents' house really and b) it'd be way more hassle than it'd be worth, considering the mileage involved.

Thanks Smile Still, have to laugh, eh? Up all night, scared of gangster philatelists... I can tell I'm gonna get made fun of, over that one.
