Hello everyone!
I've had an Idea thats been on my mind since the thing with the german forum came up.
So I ask you:
Who would be interested in some little german lessons in the german Forum?
It's not intended to make you fluent german speakers (well speaking might be a little problem in a forum) but to give you a general idea how the german Language works and to make it easier for you to learn and understand german (in case you're unlucky and find yourself in a german speaking country
) at least in writing.
So, what do you say?

Re: German Lessons?
a german learning forum would be awesome. I found myself in Wien for a few days. One thing I'll say about them; their publc transport ROCKS! they actually have signs telling you when the next bus and the one after arrives and leaves at each bus stop! I don't speak much german (enough to survive) but I found my way to a pub in Karlsplatz no problem..at midnight.
That ain't no English I ever dun heard!

isn't that, like, normal? it is in germany...
i won't offer to be a german teacher, my german sucks and i dunno nothing about grammar.

Re: German Lessons?
here the buses are often not legally allowed on the roads, they break down, have holes, if the emergency window in the back has been used sometines they are not replaced for a while. trains are also late but to fix it the gvmnt redefined "late" as 4:59 from 3:59

what do you want to have in a german lesson?
we could do something. i just don't know what.

Re: German Lessons?
well I'm experienced at studying languages...not necessarily learning them though.
Usually an introduction to the forms of verbs and nouns used is good. What the forms look like, what ones are used and what they are used for.

It is in South Morpork. It was 17minutes I had to wait for the 250 bus tonite...

LOL!! It takes a lot of skill to accurately mangle a language in its slang (umgaengssprache)! Very nice Ratty!

thanks. you don't get taught that in english lessons, but if you read books and watch movies carefully enough you can learn some slang from them. and spending half a year in new zealand helps, too, of course
.

sure, if i know the answer i will.

Re: German Lessons?
one, with a whole load of exceptions. that's one of the reasons english is so hard to learn and also you couldn't tell the difference between conjugations etc in english because all the form are parctically the same.
That ain't no English I ever dun heard!
Re: German Lessons?
there are more. you just don't really know because you're native. and i don't know about the german stuff because i'm native.
and english is comparatively easy to learn. french or spanish are way harder.

Re: German Lessons?
I'm not an english native i just speak on that level. but true. it's still a stupid language and you can attest to how different its grammar is

I think that's partly because you're starting from German - there seem to me to be more similarities between English and German than there are between either of them and French/Spanish. But if you were Spanish, you'd probably find it much easier to learn French than English.
At least, that's how it looks to me - to be honest I'm one of the least qualified linguists there could possibly be, so don't trust me too far.

Youre right MS. There are more similarities between English and German because English is a member of the German language family, so i think it means that it originated from German.

Re: German Lessons?
time for a history lesson kiddies.
in the before time, britons lived of england and in Ireland the gaelic types. at some pont in history a viking group set out from wherever they came from and landed in what is today saxony (names after the two tribes that landed there the angles and the saxons later becoming anglo-saxons.) they then landed on the northjer end of england (scottland) and after a fashion the romans invaded bringing latin with them latter buggering off leaving the anglo-saxons behind to spread their celtic brand of german. Soon the norman tribe set of from viokingland and landed in northern france adopting a viking-french language which they intruduced into the budding english language as of 1066 or even earlier. So to sum up;
English=Briton+Gaelic+viking/German+Latin+viking/French.
And yet of all the peoples of Europe (to whome GB only semi belongs) the brits have the biggest monoglotic philosophy.
