Well I have no experience in writing Stories (I guess technical documents don't count ) but I really would like to try, so you can count me in.

PS.: We are talking about a Discworld story, do we?

sorry to bring up another problem,but for me it will be.once i go back to college,i won't have enough time all the time to make comments,and i'm sure others will have the same problem.i'm not saying that i don't still want to do this,but it may help you to choose teams if each team can be evenly sorted due to time constraints of real life,if that makes sense.

no it can be about anything you want! as long as your team can decide on a topic!

i was thinking that maybe you should make a starting line for us story tellers to add on to.that way we start off at the same spot,and we see where the story takes us

But i thought that you got to make up the story thingy so everyones would be different so it would be hard to start of with the same starting sentence..well i suppose it would depend what the first line would be i suppose ponder would choose it since he is the quizmaster *jealous*...

i don't think the first sentence has a lot of influence on the outcome. we've done this in school and the results couldn't be more different!

I think there should be a limit to the size of the stories, so they are all short stories.

later we could try it with longer stories but i think its best to see if it works on a smaller scale first to root out any problems etc.

also we should realy decide as a group:

  how many people we are having,

  sizes of the groups,

  and how long the stories are.

anyway im not the boss so we should decide this together and disagree if you have better ideas

well, i suppose squirrel 1,2,3 and 4 depend on how many people sign up. i think squirrel 5 and 6 are up to the groups (how much they want and manage to write). i don't think we can just say make it 3 pages, because it depends on how the story develops. well, that's my opinion.

i think it should be a time scale like you have a week, not you can only make 30 posts or it has to be 2000words etc..

Also i think there should be 4 in a group 4 is a good number unless there is like 19 people who want to do it which would complicate things.

i reckon that we should have a certain amount of lines per story.the reason being that some of us will hold the story up because of time restraints,therefore timing it is a problem.having a certain amount of comments can be an issue cos people will abuse the idea and create long comments,the only way i can see out of it is to have a certain amount of lines in the whole story,so that each comment is broken up into say 3 lines a comment,no more,no less,therefore all the stories will be of the same length,and time is not an issue,although there should obviously be some sort of time limit.

thankyou everyone for your comments. there are some technicalities that need straightenin out before we can get underway... i have taken alot of what you have said into consideration and acted upon most.

ok, the teams are set. i only got 8 entries, so i think it is best if we have two teams - two stories.

this is so other people cannot see the stories before the voting.

for spectators - the stories are starting on tuesday and will run for a week. you will then get to vote on which is best.

as in each comment of a person has to be between 20 and 200 words? that's a lot!

that means we could have 800 words in 4 comments,that's awesome!!that'll get the story going nicely

Just had a look at the writing competition results so far: 1 team is blazing ahead nicely with their story (which got a good laugh from me! ), the other team seems stuck at the starting gate.

Two more days folks - let's get these stories wrapped up! There are nice prizes waiting for the winning team!

Right, I haven't talked to Ponder about this, but....

This is the bit I hate about communitarianism. I don't want to see a team fold because teammates can't be asked to contribute. New rule for the next three days only: if others aren't joining in, write their bits for them. Yer a team, we want a story. I don't care if it isn't in strict order, produce a story. It's an exercise in creativity, not team-building.

So let's get writing

I agree. WIP (work in progress) is one of the most annoying things existing. finished stories are the best =)

I really think we should have a 55 word prologue to explain the stories,

this tiny little adaption would make a massive difference to our stories.

the next story compo we have (wink wink nudge nudge) i will make sure it is better organised, with rules that prepare for this sort of thing...

but the stories are taking nice shape...
