but netherlands is famous to me for flowers(tulips from amsterdam) and wind mills and also the bikes and red lights lol and the CAFES if you know what i mean nod nudge wink wink.maybe you could include one or some into the name?

um,if you can have a dutch forum,can i join?i might be able to speak a bit cos i speak afrikaans,and maybe we could learn from each other.

um, i'm not sure... but I think the confusion stems from musical youth changing the words after they were banned from using a drug-related word( I don't know which one) so they used 'dutchie' instead.

Thud in the Mud?, maar dat is natuurlijk niet echt Nederlandsch en slaat niet op de Antillen en zuiderburen.

Ankhsterdam, ja. Toen ik dat las dacht ik meteen: geweldig! Maar het houdt niet veel rekening met onze zuiderburen, of onze zuidamerikaanse tegenvoeters.
Flying Thudman vind ik ook erg mooi gevonden, maar dat is dan weer in het engels...

Trouwens nog even nagezocht, maar New Amsterdam werd veroverd door de Engelsen die er toen New York van maakten, daarna weer terugveroverd door de nederlanders die er New Orange op plakten, en vervolgens teruggegeven aan de engelsen in ruil voor wat andere dingen, vandaar dat het nu nog steeds New York heet. Enne, Manhattan was voor een verzameling kralen gekocht van de Indianen, daar was ik mee in de war. Tot zover de geschiedenisles

Ek dink dat Ankhsterdam is die lekkerste naam,baie slim.

Als de wijzer echt naar Ankhsterdam gaat uitslaan, dan gaat mijn voorkeur uit naar "Ankhsterdam en omstreken". Ook ik woon in de omstreken, namelijk .
Plus: het geeft mogelijkheden voor Ankhwerpen, Johannesankh, en zelfs Paramaribankh .

Ik pleeg zelf vaak te zeggen tegen de Eilanders en hun nakroost over de plas, dat ik "from the Netherworlds" ben.
Daarom wilde ik dus

"Kroeg De Onderwereld"

en de Nederlandse vertaling van Pratchett's

"Dungeon Dimensions" (kan iemand dat even opzoeken ni de Laaglandse vertaling van "Equal Rites" of "Eric"?)

als opties op tafel gooien. Dan houden we zodra we genoeg leuke opties hebben een interne Poll, en de winnaar wordt de titel? In elk geval wordt OB de Hertog van Nieuw Ankhsterdam, daar het zijn initiatief is.

Hmmm het topic schijnt redelijk dood te zijn, maar komt er nog een nederlandse 'Hoppende Heen-en-weerwolf', of ziet men er toch geen brood in? Wellicht kaas? (refereert aan Angua's sig)

Inderdaad, laten we maar eens spijkers met koppen slaan. Het schijnt dat ik met "One man, one vote" ben benoemd tot Hertog.

Er worden geen nieuwe voorstellen meer geaccepteerd.
Neem het lijstje eens door, en nomineer je drie favorieten. Als er eentje meteen komt bovendrijven met een verschil van minimaal drie, dan wordt het die. Als er een gelijkspel is (een verschil van minder dan drie) maak ik een lijstje van de meest gekozen namen en doen we het opnieuw. Of ik hang er een poll aan vast. Maar liever doe ik het natuurlijk op zijn hollandst: met een poldermodel .
Zover ik weet heb ik van iedereen die zijn mening gegeven heeft een email-adres, behalve dat van ook. Ik zal iedereen nog een herinnering sturen.

Met een oog (of twee) op de aankomende veranderingen op de site, cities ed., lijkt het me gaaf om dat stedenthema ook in de forum naam te hebben.

Daarom dus op nr 1:

1.Nieuw Ankhsterdam, en alle variaties die daarbij horen natuurlijk. Maakt me niet zoveel uit welke stad het is. Nieuw Ankhsterdam vond ik iig de leukste.

2.De Kroeg, kort maar krachtig. Goede associaties met het woord kroeg (als in luitruchtig, dronken, lomp ) en het model van een Troll van het thud bord. ' BWLEEEH, ik goa naor de KROEG!!'

3. En als die twee niet voldoende zijn, vind ik mijn eigen 'Bonsforum' ook nog steeds wel een heel klein pietsel beetje grappig.

sorry sorry, I keept confustng Ms and you OB, no sure why, I think it was your profile pictures. okthen, the germans and dutch are ties, but I think that which a little practice the two could become mutually intelligible so long as words are short, uninflected, syntax is abandoned and only simple svo sentences are used.

No Ratty was right; Austria is AT, and normally country codes are all caps (take it from a guy who's been nose deep in database schemas for pricing software for 4 months now (Oracle, SAP, MSSQL.... ); they're definitely two letters, all caps.

But the reason for AT is, like most dodgy European ideas, Napoleon - AT comes from the French: "L'Autriche"
