Are we the biggest Discworld forum?

Yay! to everyone.
But being new I'm sure I missed the conversation where it was discussed why this is so good. Appart from the fuzzy feeling of acomplishment [well earned by the way.] and the prestige in the Pratchett commuity's and hopefully /HIS/ eyes, does this mean anything significant, will the forum now be subsidised, given special rights? was the "Discworld stamps" forum in a special club?
BTW, when I joined ~6 days ago I counted 778 members so thats about 25 members/day! Congrats Lee et al.

Perhaps if you rename the site to "biggest discwoprld forum" and no-one sues you you'll know whether you are.

There are several with 400 or so members (Death's Domain, The Turtle Moves) and technically Discworld Monthly has bigger membership (20,000 or so?) but no interaction but IIRC we and the Stamps are the big forums on the block. I may be wrong and would be interested to know if there is a bigger one elsewhere (and no replying with obvious jokes please! ).

As far as I can see, the best thing about having lots of members (apart from having more prospective oponents) is that it makes it easier for Dewi & Lee to make a few bob from the site. And the more financially stable the site is, the safer it's future, which has surely got to be a good thing.

exactly,and that means they'll be able to do more for the site,of course only when they can spare the time,this place is getting quite big and we can't expect them to do everything.

I'm a keen forumer at times and quite a devout Discworld reader, but have never signed up to any Discworld forums before this one, basically because there are a few out there and I hadn't bothered to compare them and find one I liked.

I just found this one, and signed up because I'm eager to learn Thud, and already I feel proud to know that it's most likely the biggest Discworld forum on the Grand Trunk.

I realy think that this site is the best online discworld forum but i dont think the site name does it any justice.

this is called thudgame.com but we talk about everything discworld on here, not just thud.

this is no way a complaint even though it sounds like one, its more a comliment saying we are the best even though the name focus's on 1 of the many books,

however i do think with a new name we would get even more discaholics here,

just a suggestion to the power that be,

The purpose of the board game Thud in its context in the relevant Discworld novel, as well as being entertaining for its players, is to keep them off the streets of Ankh-Morpork, so I think the name of the forum is highly appropriate if it keeps its unruly denizens from wreaking havoc in their real-life neighbourhoods .

Also, I don't know if the site's goal is to attract Pratchett fans who are not in the least bit interesting in playing Thud.

Im not saying the site name is entirely inappropriate, as i said it is not a complaint. i was just saying that people who dont know the site will see it and think it is a site only about Thud where realy it is about all of the discworld novels.

the forum topics reflect this fact, a handfull of forums are:

"New pterry book" - about the upcoming book
"Dungeons and dragons" - about online rpg's
"more words than you can shake a dictionary at" massive word association game
"snow!" about (you guessed it) snow!
"mind your language" seeing collectively how many languages we know as a community

these show we are not a site just about thud, this makes me seem like a thud hater when actually it is one of my favourite books.

finally i dont know what the sites goal is, but im sure that people who dont like the book thud itself are welcome here. i personally know several members who havent even read it yet!!!

my point is that people may think by our sitename that we only deal in thud.

anyway whatever the sitemasters are doing must be working!

i think that if the site name was changed then that would mean chaning logos,backgrounds and lots of different little things as well as ip addresses and stuff like that

plus it advertises the big fact - that you can play thud online and have a slowfire thud forum, which a general site might not have

maybe the site could be like 'Discworld Thud lovers', ok i know that sucks realy bad but do u get what i mean?

i am not entirely bothered what the site is called as i love it anyway, not quite as much as a newborn baby, a bit more than a new girlfriend, about the same as a greatly shaped vegetable.

anyway i just thought that the name didnt reflect the site completely, it is good though.

and as a bit of probabley illegal advertising:

come to think of it,thudgame sounds pretty cool,cos when you come here it's more than just a game,it's the 'thud' you get when you get involved with everything this site is,and was,and hopefully will be.
