New Rule for Koom Valley Thud please test and give feedback

DruidThudmeister

I have been remiss in not posting this before but at the recent Hogswatch event a new rule was developed for Koom Valley Thud(KVT) by Trevor Truran and others present.

Koom Valley Thud New rule

"Dwarfs cannot move the Thudstone backwards (Towards dwarfs own starting half of the board) unless there is a one or more trolls adjacent to the Thudstone"

We think that this should prevent dwarfs forcing a draw by playing negatively and reduce what is currently perceived as an advantage to dwarfs in the game if they attack aggressively early on.

Can those who play KVT on this site and elsewhere use this new rule and give feedback here we are interested to see if this balances the game more or swings the advantage to the Trolls.

Also is the rule as stated above clear and unambiguous enough. Any and all feed back welcomed.

Hi Alex,

Interesting development... Request permission to put this on my site, pointing out it is a try out of course.
Thanks in advance.

Happy Thudding!

Hi SANEAlex,

in my current KVT-games against U, I don't think Troll's can win ever.
They are to limited due to the fact that the Dwarves can move the Stone forwards and backwards (with limitation).
Maybe it would be wise to try a game so that the Stone only can be moved forward, to the left and to the right with the basic rule.

I would be pleased to try this.

Greetings,

Palm

Strangely despite me also thinking that dwarfs do have the advantage still even with the new rule whilst we are playing in my games with FlorisIV it seems that the trolls are going to win so it maybe that the new rule has balanced it out more so before we try yet another attempt to change the rules i would like to see a few more games played under the current new rule to see if the Dwarf/Trolls win more evenly i would especially like to see you and Floris play when you have both got time to see what happens.

I think Palm is right about the dwarf advantage, they can lock the game by surrounding the stone, as he did in your game.

The reason we both are winning our troll games is more the result of relatavly weak playing. When i look at the games again i see a some 'wrong' moves on the dwarf sides, especially in the midgame. So if you play the dwarfs 'correct' they still have an advantage i think.

Perhaps we could have some discussion on strategies, openings ed. to take out the weaker moves. For example a game where you explain every move to your opponent, a forum game is an ideal medium for this. Wink
