The Hogfather movie

Hiyo!

I'm not sure if you're aware, but Sky One in England recently had a feature-length film made of The Hogfather for Christmas 2006. Link is here, if you've never heard of this:

I've seen the first part myself... what does everyone think about it?

Personally, I was disappointed. It lacked the spark and sizzle of the books, and just seemed kind of flat to me. Like it was just going through the motions. Not very many funny moments, and it struggled to make even the most basic plot points understandable. The Hogfather is one of the few Discworld books I haven't read, but I can imagine it's alot better than this.

I'm still watching part 2, mind, although I can't tonight. I've taped it for tomorrow, since my family have kind of voted on not seeing it again. Blergh >_>

I've very much enjoyed it Very Happy
In response to your point about understanding basic plot elements, I found that it was very difficult to make sense of all of it the first time I read the book, but of course since I have read it the film made perfect sense...

I thought it was rather good, although i do agree with the point that it didn't have many funny bits in. BUT there was some bits where i couldn't pick myself off the floor for laughing.

i thought death looked really impressive as well. and of course! how can we forget pTerry's outstandin acting! i was greatly impressed.

HAPPY HOGSWATCH!

But the book is always better than the film! Smile Wink

But yes, it would probably make more sense and be more meaningful having read the book. I noticed in the Hogfather film there were several times when it seemed they had to rush something in in a quick scene just so a part of the plot made sense. But the film was good for me as it matched a lot of what I imagined whilst reading the book. Seeing it in full colour, with Discworld stuff and period features, made it that much better but I had read the book twice, and once a few weeks ago. Smile

I thought it was brilliant...although not as good as the book (nothing ever is though) i still really enjoyed it.

I would have advised having a good background knowledge i.e. reading lots of the books, not just the Hogfather before watching, becasue that way, you understand the background better

Hmm, yes indeed. I watched it this afternoon on SkyTwo. It does grow on one-- It was more enjoyable the second time watching it than the first.

His Eminence Mr Pratchett was featured on the Book Show on the Artsworld channel this evening as well. Very interesting interview. it appears Making Money will be coming out this year at long last.
