And here it is! the new fancy look to the thud cave, with countless numbers of gizmos behind the scenes. I have been told via the ol' yoghurt pots and string that there is still more to come! yes more!
blimey i hear you cry! because we all know you did.
Anyway. I am most impressed and it would be interesting if we could have your thoughts and views on what you love, what you like and what you hate and could be changed.
If you find a bug with the system there is a forum here. this is just to keep this topic for thoughts and views only.
Happy Thudding,

Yes...it's luverly, all right, as Eliza Doolittle would say. I can't wait to play with all the little toys. Huzzah!
I must say, though, that being asked if I want to navigate away from a page every time I leave a page will make me (even more) bonkers, shortly. I wonder why it is?
A couple of nice
A couple of nice things:
Datestamps are very nice. Long-sought-after since the big forum jump, in fact.
I like the addition of the little tag buttons above the message composition area. I know how to do things like that without buttons, but sometimes I just get lazy. Most welcome is the 'Close All Open Tags' one, but see...
A couple of frustrating things:
'Close All Open Tags' only works on the tags you've opened with the buttons, which I understand, but which is a bit of a drag.
Like Magrat, I'm also a bit frustrated by constantly being asked if I really want to navigate away from a page.
Also, I can't seem to preview this comment before posting.
And the font seems particularly scrinchy and distracting, but that's a bit of a personal issue.
All in all, it should work out well, though...

And a couple of interesting
And a couple of interesting things:
Something seems to have gone wonky with the avatars -- namely, that they're gone. I've just re-uploaded, but it doesn't seem to be visible in the forums. Is that intentional?
I also notice that the new setup seems not to have a problem with a .PNG with a transparent background. That's good, because it would be better than having a black background that doesn't look as slick for those using the 'light' colour scheme.
I also noticed that we seem to be getting user points for individual comments, rather than just new content! As far as I can remember, wasn't there once some talk about making this a retroactive feature? Will there be developments on that front in the future?
One other minor point -- it's too bad that the new layout has a left sidebar that's too narrow for some of the menu items. 'Post a new event' and 'Top 10 Users by points' wrap down to the next line in an ugly way.
Finally, what's happened to Dewi? Used to be, back in the old days, he was the regular voice from Dun-Morganalley-in, but now we're hearing a lot more from Lee... DEWI! WE MISS YOU!

two more things
1. still two "quote" buttons, only one of which works
2. "Tab" used to take me from "subject" to "Comment", when writing a post. Now I have to tab through I, B, Quote, Link, teaser break, and close all open tags to get to "comment". Perhaps that could be different? I abjure mice whenever possible.
3. (ok, I know I said 2...) what is a teaser break?
New Website stylee
Just a quick, but long, post to wrap up some of the things we've been doing, some we're doing in response to feedback (see-- feedback is always good!) and some as continuing add-ons and upgrades....
I must say, though, that being asked if I want to navigate away from a page every time I leave a page will make me (even more) bonkers, shortly.
Sorry. It's meant to be a form checking thingy to make sure you don't leave the page accidently and lose loads of lovely work you've been working on for hours (as I've done several times recently...
). i've disabled it, however, for contetn submission but do say if it crops up elsewhere in an annoying way.
'Close All Open Tags' only works on the tags you've opened with the buttons, which I understand, but which is a bit of a drag.
I'm afraid it only remembers what you've clicked on as a self contained app. It isn't a proper HTML tidy app, just a small applet for simple things. We'll check and see if a more robust app is available, though.
Also, I can't seem to preview this comment before posting.
And the font seems particularly scrinchy and distracting, but that's a bit of a personal issue.
Hmm, seems to work for me. I'll check the access rights. I've set the background so that it's now readable, though
And a couple of interesting things:

Yes and no. They'll be back (to coin a phrase!
) but we have a bit of work still to do first
I also notice that the new setup seems not to have a problem with a .PNG with a transparent background. That's good, because it would be better than having a black background that doesn't look as slick for those using the 'light' colour scheme.
Yes, yes, Javascript is an extremely cool way to get Internet Exploder to play nicely
I also noticed that we seem to be getting user points for individual comments, rather than just new content! As far as I can remember, wasn't there once some talk about making this a retroactive feature? Will there be developments on that front in the future?
You should have been getting points for comments all along but there were bugs in the userpoints module in the previous edition (one big reason, amongst many, for the upgrade
)
As for retroacive userpoints? Gissa few minutes, eh!?!
One other minor point -- it's too bad that the new layout has a left sidebar that's too narrow for some of the menu items. 'Post a new event' and 'Top 10 Users by points' wrap down to the next line in an ugly way.
I had noticed that on the test site but it's still a bit down in the list. It will get done!
Finally, what's happened to Dewi? Used to be, back in the old days, he was the regular voice from Dun-Morganalley-in, but now we're hearing a lot more from Lee... DEWI! WE MISS YOU!
Well! See if I come back on with updates...
Just kidding!
We were incurring great expense hiring translators so that you lot could understand him, and that's without him launching into learned discussions about quantum!
Seriously, Dewi's been up to his elbows in getting code to behave and he's got another(!) game client update coming out very soon (course, everytime I say that it gets delayed several times...
) But he was sat next to me for several hours this morning and afternoon as we flipped the site.
Anyway, I'll shut up now and go off and find some more things to wow the socks off you all. You think you've seen cool stuff?? Eh?? Ya ain't seen nuthin' yet!!

Gissa few minutes....

A couple of sminted things
A couple of sminted things which are grand is the new "quoting" "boxes", they are really cool and attractive. and i personally like the font but heh, everyone to their own.
ALSO!
Mr Morgan and Mr Alley: do you actually do "proper" work as well as tinker with this site? i feel really bad complaining and ruining your lives making you fix stuff if you have clients to be makin stuff for...
+++divide by cucumber error+++please reinstall universe and reboot+++

Yeah, I know. I had hoped the upgrade would do away with the superfluous one
We're looking into it....
2. "Tab" used to take me from "subject" to "Comment", when writing a post. Now I have to tab through I, B, Quote, Link, teaser break, and close all open tags to get to "comment". Perhaps that could be different? I abjure mice whenever possible.
Sorry. I poked around the code a bit but it looks like it's something written in pretty deep. At this point I would rather not tinker for fear of breaking things pretty spectacularly but I'll keep it on the list
3. (ok, I know I said 2...) what is a teaser break?
Do keep the feedback coming, y'all! It's really very helpful
I'll post later on today about where we are and what's coming up but just to say this is meant to be the last of the great, hugely disruptive upgrades. We hope this one delivers some really nice stuff for you all and provides a more stable platform for future upgrades and site improvements.

it's all good.

'S all right. I'm already getting used to it.

You guys need a mai tai or something. Send some grub in to Dewi, will you, so he doesn't forget to eat? We can't do without him....
