Thudgame 2006g released!

Admin

This is a bitter day for me. I'd hoped to release the proper, full, skinnable version of the client. But in the end, Rich Text just kicked my ass.

I'd been promising a release "tomorrow" to Lee for a fortnight now, but it's coe to the point where I realise that the richtext code I have is just not going to do the job I need. BIG chunks of it need rewriting again.

So here, at least, is a *usable* improvement to the previous. Technologically, it's no Great Leap Forward, but I think the improvements I've made should make a lot of people very happy.

For a start, the background colour is now LIGHT grey instead of "random bluish greys, everything from white to black".

Next, the chat textarea in the game itself is resizable, and should start out with reasonable dimensions for most users. It should even be usable on 640x480 screens, though you don't see much of the textarea there.

That's about it, really. The rest is bugfixes that people probably won't notice.

Biggest usability problem left is that some java clients aren't loading the background, which makes text unreadable for those users. Only workaround for that at the moment is for the users to use the [bg] tag in chat, and ask everyone else to, too.

Some of the rich text functionality kindof-works, though this is not NEW: it was in the last version too. I've posted to the drum about that, so people will hopefully discuss it a bit Smile

Dewi,

Looking at this post, and the Daemonize post thingy made my brain hurt, eyeballs bleed, and left me with a vacant staring expression and drool coming out the corner of my mouth. Not pretty.

But I can appauld your knowledge and the need to share with us technologically challenged individuals like myself the benefits of your experience.

And I realized one other thing as well. How hard you work for this community. So on behalf of me (and I'm sure a few others too)...

Keep up the good work mate and don't let the gremlins and glitches get you down Smile
