Actually, that's a slight exaggeration: I have some love for cricket, but otherwise I'm far happier if I can avoid such exertion...

Most people's ping pong games do get a lot worse when they're hammered, even 12 year olds (although they have no excuse for getting hammered. They should wait until at least 16.)

I don't do sports for teams - Nor any sport that gets too competitive - There's probably some psychology there, I end up wanting to not merely ~win~ but ~Crush~ my opponents. (yes I know I am far to competitive).

But if we are talking sports for fun and fitness....

Kayak/canoe
Boogieboarding - not surfing

With Crocodile Dundee fading to the background and the sad passing of Steve Irwin, it's really good to see some Ozzies keeping up the image of the Australian uber-Bloke! I mean, rock-climbing?!? There's a minimum quota of fearless insanity required....

Personally I agree with the Disposable Heroes: Football, Hockey, baseball-- these are sports, but Basketball is the Truth!!

Aww Lee, don't make me blush I'm not an Uber-bloke - Far from it, Don't you remember that topic from Dearmer about geeks and nerds? I know it is a generalisation but most guys in Australia are very physical, probably due to our great climate. I'll give you an example, most of the guys that I work with (and my job is definantly an influence) would NOT consider me an Uber-Bloke. In the team that I work with we have the following which calls my blokey status into question.

1) B (Team Leader)- Who travels the world with large rifles killing not-so- defenceless animals like Bears/Kudu etc in his time off. Generally this involves going somewhere without 5 star accomodation and humping a large pack into the wilderness...He's in his 60's (If I go on holidays I want room service darn it)
2) A - (Senior Team Member) Ex Army Major part of a cycling club that recently road for charity from Brisbane to Townsville. Umm Thats a long way...He's in his 50's (Thats so far I think I would die - I can barely make it to the beach and back on my bike)
3) R - (Senior Team Member) He loves to fish. LOVES TO FISH. Biggest fish he ever caught was a 1100 pound black marlin, took him six hours to reel it in. I suppose that elevates it from pastime to obsessive sporting behavior.
4) T (one of the guys again my age) Rugby forward - 6'4" built like a train, regularly comes into work with black eye's split lips, mashed ears etc etc. (says it all really doesn't it)
5) D (younger bloke) Not that big, but as you English would say HARD. His sport is Tai Kwon Do, This year during a competition he tore his achilles tendon...and still won..Then had surgery and crutches for six weeks.

What really determines my lack of blokiness is that I cannot watch sport on television. ANY sport, and these guys love their cricket/rugby/golf/football/soccer/tennis/racing/fishing

there is a great sport that they do at my uni, and i was wonderiseing if it was played anywhere else as well.

This mysterious sport is called "ultimate frisbee." it is basically basketball/netball/hockey merged into one with a fisbee instead of a ball. (and obviously you don't bounce the frisbee like a ball either) i have only seen it played and, alas, i have not been able/ not been bothered to play it yet but it looks good.

Sounds like something my brother plays in the States called frisbee-golf. He and his friends are mental about it, play every weekend and apparently it's really catching.

As far as I can tell it's throw these great metal frisbees along a fairway and into a chain basket at the end. Fewest throws to make it in wins (and you do this for 18 "holes" [i.e. baskets]). Is this the same thing as at your uni Ponder? If so, beware. it's habit forming and very expensive. Kinda sports-crack really

not really. this is literally played on a basketball court - but its slightly bigger i think and you have two teams. plus i think its only like a normal plastic frisbee.

but frisbee golf jobby does sound reeeeaaalllly cool

Believe it or not, I've actually played the game you describe... and at no lesser level than (drum roll please) for my house at school! That one tournament was the first & last time I've played it, and only then because my arm was severely twisted, but it wasn't too bad...

ultimate frisbee eh?i once played that in america,it's the one where you can't move if you've got the frisbee in your hands,and you gots ta get it into da endzone for points,type of fing.

ewww, sport. i love my chair and my computer way too much to even think of it. though i did do horse-riding for a little while, but gave it up again due to lack of opportunity and talent.
i quite enjoy races. but only with my tomcat up and down the stairs (and only if i can explain to him, what i want him to do. he wants me to learn catish and thus often refuses to start unless i tell him in catish)(he always wins). does that count as a sport? a nice alternative is racing with the neighbours dog down the hill.

the last time i road a horse i was thrown off and went to hospital cos i landed on my neck,no more horsies for me.

and running up and down the hall\hill with your cat\dog could be a sport,although it sounds like you have a carefree world to live in when you can run down a hill to beat a dog for fun.

not that care free, and i didn't do it for quite a while, because i've got no time and am too lazy to walk the dog. so only stair racing for me right now.

any exercise is better than none.

I like sport its good fun (exsept cross country ARG house cross country next week!!), it also helps doing the sports that you like. Like today we had a netball practise in the freezing cold but its all good fun, very cold but fun.

i agree that it is vital to do sport that you enjoy, otherwise you get bored and give up.

right...this is the story of today...

...the bell goes for 4th lesson which is P.E and we were looking forward to badminton and table tennis...we get in to the hall and our P.E teacher said "because the weather is nice i thought that the girls could do cross country today and not next week" so we were not happy about this but we couldn't get out of it so we went outside freeeeezing cold and started running...about half way you had to go up this hill AND! it started snowing!!! and we were in shorts and t-shirts it was not nice and when we made it back to school i was very very cold! so i officialy hate cross country! it would have been ok if it wasn't so cold!! bring on summer!!

it was 35 today,the aircon couldn't even keep out all the heat for a while.there was a fire on the mountain,that time of the year when fires are prominent.

oh well,temperatures are still gonna rise till mid feb,was 42 yesterday up the coast.the worst temp i've ever endured was in texas,where i had to coach tennis for 3 months,and for one week temps didn't go lower than 40,hottest was 47,i had bubbles on my skin from the heat.

it is alot more energetic than it looks, and takes a lot of skill. i used to play it in school. way back in the day.
