Posting to the site means typing something into a box, clicking a button and then (if things have been done correctly and the right buttons pushed, you'll see it on the site. It's very easy once you know how. Essentially all registered users can post to the forums. Those who are paying members can upload images, post blog entries, create polls and many other things. We also have Druids, which are our site moderators and helpers for new people.
To post something, the user interface works pretty much the same for all the above. There are slight differences but this post will cover the necessary features needed to post to the forums or to post a blog entry; the embellishments will be covered in another post.
In the menu on the upper left-hand side of your screen, you'll see a link called "post to the forums". Clicking on this will bring up a screen titled "Submit Forum Topic". Underneath the title is a long box called "Title". Here you enter the title of your post. Below that are some boxes with things in them; ignore these for the moment and look at the big box called "Body". This is where you type what you wish to post on the site. If you want to start a new line of text, just press return. This can look a little un-tidy if you meant to put a paragraph break in the form of a blank line between paragraphs so to do this, press return twice as I have done with this, and the above, paragraphs. It will look the same way. Easy-peasy, eh?
Now comes the hard part! The last thing to do is to look at the little drop down list above the big box called "Body" and click on the arrow. This selects a list of forums in which you can place your post (when posting a blog entry you don't have this step as it's unnecessary). This list can give you an idea of where your post should be placed by relevance:
Announcements: This forum is for official site announcements. Don't post it here; we will move it elsewhere.
Suggestions: This forum is for suggestions about the site, Thud, the community, the online game or anything else you have a good idea for. Do feel free, especially posting suggestions about this site. We read them all and act on many of them in one way or another.
Thud! The Book: This forum is for discussion about the book.
Thud Game Strategies: This forum is for discussion around strategies for playing Thud.
The Thudding Drum: This is our virtual pub. Like The Mended Drum in various Discworld books, the Thudding Drum is where we discuss anything and everything, everyone is welcome, it never shuts. You probably won't be killed, maimed, injured or have other dangerous things happen to you, or around you as in the Mended Drum but it can be an exciting place to post things.
The Marketplace: This is the forum for Thud stuff for sale, or wanted to buy. This one will be getting busy in the near future! ![]()
Forum Thud!: This is where people play "Slowfire Thud" (i.e. one move per post at a time) much in the same way Havelock Vetinari plays his opponents using the clacks. It's a good place to examine various techniques such as opening moves, clever strategies, etc. by watching how noted players play their games.
Thud Tournaments: This is the forum for the official Tournaments which end with someone being declared a "Thudmeister".
The support forums are for technical support for various aspects of thudgame.com except for how to use this site; that is covered in the "Site Help" forum.
Technical Problems: This forum is used to post problems encountered playing the online game, using the site, etc. Any problems you have should be posted here. We read these and act on them as quickly as possible.
Skinning: should be named Game Skinning and has nothing to do with the leather trade. This forum is for discussion and dissemination of information around creating game skins for the online game.
Beta Testers: this is a legacy forum used for certain beta testers who tested new things we were developing for the old forum and the game. We have a separate development site for testing new things now. Anyone interested in being a beta tester should contact us via the feedback form.
Development Notes: This is a read only forum for us to keep the community updated on development progress of various applications under development. Don't post here; it will be moved. Comments are welcome, though.
Thudboard is a very nice, and very useful application developed by Marc Boeren and used by many here to assist in playing Forum Thud. Marc posts updates to Thudboard here and there is much information about installing and troubleshooting it as well.
Administration forums: For site admins and Druids use only. If you can see these, don't post here; it will be deleted.
Those are pretty much the main points around posting to the forums and which forum to post to. We hope you enjoy thudgame.com and you feel very welcome to get involved and get stuck into the discussion.
