Shoving rules

Well, I'm not sure wich forum I shoud post this, but I chose this as long as other choices are "admin post only".

This' for the official (phisical) rules about shoving:
"A troll can only be shoved to make a capture. It cannot use the shove as an ordinary move" (page 6).

The fact is, a while ago I started my first game online (I'm new here) against Ponder, and he's been to do shoving "without capturing".

So I wonder if it's a bug or just an exception in the online game.

I'm sorry if this' not the rigth place to report it.

Ponder, explain yourself! (Otherwise bear in mind that you're not the only one with access to pointy sticks Wink)

irilt, you don't happen to know the game number (would have been displayed when the game started), so that we can see what happened do you?

Hi irilt! Welcome to thudgame.com! Smile

You're welcome to post to just about any forum; only a couple are admin only.

Like Mr Scrub said, you have to watch Ponder closely Wink

Seriously, you'll notice from the rules that captures aren't compulsory. If a troll moves next to dwarfs he doesn't have to capture any dwarfs unless he's been shoved then he has to take at least one (1). There was a big debate as to whether this was a purely theoretical issue or whether there could be a case in point in which it would be advantageous not to take all the dwarfs possible.

Having said that, I;m not sure whether Dewi has actually implemented the option-no-to-take in the online game client. It's planned but I don;t know if it's been put in yet.

No worries. The forums formality is mainly for legacy reading more than finding content or being true to any protocol. It was probably more important on the previous forum that had a more inflexible content structure.

Thanks for the enquiry and we'll get back on it very soon.

did i? gosh! that seems a little wierd as it only lets you shove when you CAN take something.

and i must apologise for that game. my internet went bursar on me and i lost the game and couldn't log back in for some reason. yet, again for some techy reason, my username probably would have remained - so i hope this didn't cause confusion or frustration on your part.

Pondmeister, yes thats right - the master of the pond
