How long are we keeping topics?

Druid

Just wanted to pose the question generally, (we seem to have lost the ability to do Polls in the new site) Puzzled

With the new site it seems to me that certain forum topics are kept that don't really need to be. If the topic has been in existance for 47 weeks and hasn't been read for 36 weeks, isn't it time we got rid of it?

Just wantd to find out what everyone thinks and we could prod the moderators to kill...I mean clean up some topics.

ah! but you forget - i have pointy sticks! have at you!!!

i am also in agreement with this - but us moderators cannot just go around deleting topics - we all sort of need to agree and make sure no-one else will burst into tears if we do indeed do such things.

some are pretty funny to look over though....

and yes i am slightly peeved about not having polls

Indeed! And Google loves content and WE love our Google rankings Very Happy
So how long do ya wanna keep posts?

Don't let the date/timeframe put you off. A lot of times (like the 48 weeks stuff) borked when we migrated stuff over from phpBB. We didn't feel it was that important in the long run and the more you all post more stuff (and get more points! Big yerself up, Dearmer-- nice one! Very Happy), the more the old posts will fade to the back ground. Google still loves them even when you lot don't Wink

Ponder, you're a site Druid. You have polls! click on "Create Content" over in the left hand navigation block and see if there isn't a link that says "poll". Smile

Edit: Except for Admins, all stuff you can post to the site should be listed at the upper left-hand pagelinks. Polls will be there if available to you.

Hmmm, do they now? Why don't we do a poll on that and see how the rest of us feel about that? Laughing

How long are we keeping

Alas, us peon types cannot create polls.... unless that option is like Vetinari's coat of arms, and I'm just not cool enough to be able to see it when it is right there. Very Happy

Erm... Embarassed (*pulls on nearby jackets to draw attention*) Erm, Sirs, I think, stuff like about strategy is everlasting and should never be deleted, to give little people like myself a leg up.

i agree with this statement - any educational stuffs should remain untouched - but random babblings about cheese and geese that haven't been viewd in a year could do with going.

come to think of it - thats like half of my posts Very Happy

I have a lot of time for this view as well. Personally I'll argue very hard for not pruning content unless there's a very compelling reason for doing so. And, even then, I don't think we would prune radically.

It's one thing to be an old hand at this but only this week ancient threads have been resurrected by old and new members alike. When new people come to the site some of them will want to know where things came from. Thankfully we should have the search index re-built soon so that site content can be found very quickly.
