TT2006 - The Final: Mr Scrub vs Palm

Druid

This is the opening message for The Final Game of Thud Tournament 2006

....and The Battle continues yet again! One last time

  • , Koom Valley will be the backdrop for The Battle of Battles. Strange as it may seem, the frightened tourists that fled Koom Valley in Round Two spread word, and now there's a huge bloodthirsty crowd. Dwarfs and Trolls alike have gathered en masse to witness this Battle. And most of Ankh-Morpork, of course. Any word of a good fight is enough to empty the city in a heartbeat (or two[**])...
Over there are a couple of wheelchairs with people in it missing various limbs. Every one of them has an Igor standing next to it. Hmmmm. Looks like you'll be doing some good for the people, whether you win or lose.
The City Watch has been instructed to turn a blind eye, and Sam Vimes is at home looking for a Cow with Young Sam. So you can kill, carnage, pillage, burn, and generally be a b*st*rd as much as you like. You can thank the Patrician for that.
He's over there, in that... But wait! Who's that, next to the Patrician? Well I'll be... if that isn't Oograh Boike! Hells! It looks like you need to do the killing, carnaging, pillaging, burning, and generally being a b*st*rd whenever he's not looking. Let's hope the Patrician can distract him enough of the time for you to still have a bit of fun...
Wipe your axes, pick those tiny bits of dwarf from your club, say a last prayer to the God(s) of your choice, and into the battle with Pride, Honour, and a little knife hidden in your boots!

You, my friends, have made it to the Final Game of TT2006. The two of you will have to decide which one of you will be Thudmeister 2006, and which one of you we'll have to leave for the Igors (or the miners). I don't mind either way, as long as it's a fair fight, with lots of blood and pebbles.
Same rules apply as for the other rounds. Forum gaming is default until you've had an online game. Until then, please stick to the 24-hour rule. Missus Oograh put on her blindfold again, and picked Mr Scrub's name out of a hat to be the first one to post a move, within 24 hours starting now! This is the Finals, so no leniency any more! Post, or consider the consequences.
But what am I droning on about, right? You know the drill. Go for it, and may the best sentient[***] being win.

    --------------------------------------------------

    [*]For the time being.
[**]Foul Ole Ron has to do his "Bugrit, Millennium Hand and Shrimp" to a couple of lampposts before he can leave....
    [***]Trolls included (just this once).

    Good Luck, and Happy Thudding!

I'm quite keen on an online game (as I tend to do a little better in them Wink), but I havent got any long periods of time between now and next wednesday.
Evenings from wednesday 30th onwards, are fine, tho (as far as I know at the moment).

However, failing that I'll be making my moves from Greenbelt on a bed sheet with a board drawn on Smile
    The first being

    d E14 - J14

Good luck (but not too much Twisted Evil)

    Hi Mr. Scrub,

    finally we meet again.
Maybe it's wise to put a date in our agenda when we can play a live game against eachother.
In week 35 all evenings are fine by me. Starting from 20.00 BST (21.00 GMT at my place).
    I will hear from you.

Off course I wish you all the best in our final game(s).

I will do the kick-off if you don't mind.

    d E14 - J14

    Many greetings,

    Palm

    Hi there,

you already answered as I was typing my answer.
But anyhow, I think Wednesday 30 August is fine by me. Shall we say 20.00 BST?

    1. T H9 - J10

    2. d E14 - J14

    Greetings,

    Palm

Uh oh. Looks like you were both posting at the same time.
No worries though, it was both dwarfs moves. Stick to them in either game, and no harm done.

@MS: have fun mate (at greenbelt I mean). Pity T Bone Burnett had to cancel. Him and Candy Staton would've been my top pick.

August 30th at 20:00 BST is fine by me (having now checked the calendar now I can say that for definate).

Thanks OB - it is a shame about T Bone, but I'm stewarding for the first time this year, so I don't know whether I'd have been free when he was on anyway.

    Hi Mr. Scrub,
unfortunatly I can't play a live game on Wednesday evening 30th of August.
Perhaps 1 day later or 2 days later.
    I'm very sorry.
Please let me know when we can play on another evening (or 2)?

    Online game - summary

    Founding PatronLibrarianDruidThudmeister

We played, from scratch, over the live client. The game was 2885. The links below are to thudboard files for each half.

    First Half
    Palm (d) 18 vs 16 (T) Mr Scrub

    Second Half
    Palm (T) 24 vs 8 (d) Mr Scrub

Thus Palm wins by 18 points. Palm is Thudmeister 2006!

My congratulations to Palm, and thanks to OB, Dewi & Lee for bringing this together.
