Archimedes Palimpsest

Druid

Unfortunately, I was too late to catch the live webcast (I tuned in just in time for the "we'd like to thank..." bit). But I've had a look at the very well documented Archimedes Palimpsest site, and this is absolutely 10 out of 10 for cool!
Discovering and revealing a thousand year old manuscript, even when some monk used the same paper for a prayer book seven hundred years ago. And an Archimedes manuscript at that!
Now isn't that amazing or what?

Yep, was reading about it on hols this week; 11 out of 10 from me!! They used Xray fluoroscopy or something like that to reveal Archimedes text which was still readable. Fantastic!

Bootnote: He was the guy that pretty much invented modern mathematics and is quoted (paraphrased?) as saying: "Give me a lever big enough, and a place to stand, and I will move the world"

I'm with you on this OB Very Happy
