Yes. Round 2 has been started a few moments ago. The page has been uploaded, all threads have been opened, and this thread is for updates on ehm... updates
.
Dwarves are Small, Mr Scrub, Palm and SANEAlex: good luck to all, and give us some good games. You've obliged yourselves by winning Round One, so you'd better
.
Happy Thudding!

Hmmm... I've noticed something very strange. Last post says it was submitted 11.18pm. Please tell me I wasn't an hour early in locking all Round One games. Time difference between NL and UK is -1 hour, right? Is this site still on winter time?
Happy Thudding!

Crickey... I never thought I'd get even this far, but now I'm really scared - it's a veritable who's who of thud players who've beaten me by enormous margins
If I don't survive, Ponder can have my elephant collection...
and re: time, you're fine OB - when I look at your first post in this thread, it says it was submitted at 12:18
Mr Scrub
"LOOKS PERFECTLY LOGICAL TO ME"

Good. Lots of blood guaranteed then, I gather?

Mr Scrub
Strange... I've set my profile to GMT, and still it says 11:18. Anyways, thx MS! Though I was sure, it still had me off for a moment.
Happy Thudding!

If you're set to GMT you should be an hour out - we're on BST now, which is GMT +1 (or is it GMT -1? I'm no good at this stuff
)
MS
EDIT: grammar
"LOOKS PERFECTLY LOGICAL TO ME"
Hi Y'all,
And there I went and did it. I had to edit all initial posts in Round 2 threads, because I used quotation marks in the url for Round 2 page.
. I will remember to put that in the rules for a possible next edition.
I edited them out in all six games. Yeah, I know, we said absolutely no edits in any TT06 threads, but that was "apart from referee" of course
Happy Thudding!

These are stupendous battles now underway. I count myself well out of it! But just wait 'til next...whenever the next tournament is!
Best of luck to the mighty combatants, and may the biggest club and sharpest axe win...
Hi Y'all,
Due to a bit of unsolicited forum auto-pruning Dearmers question to referees seems to have gone. Dewi's working hard to get it from backup, it'll be back in here shortly.
Let me try to repeat: Forum is default! The 24-hour rule was installed to keep the games going, and to keep players from thinking: "Hey, I whacked three dwarfs today! Three points for me! Let's not post for the rest of the two weeks! Mwaahahahaha!
".
.
All of you Round Two players are making plans for an online game, and refraining from forum moves to avoid the 24-hour rule. That was absolutely NOT my intention.
All I was trying to say was: plans can go wrong. See SANEAlex' migraine yesterday and today (sorry my friend, you must feel horrible, and I definitely feel sorry for you, but you have to agree it is a good example). What if that happens at just that moment when you and him had plans for online gaming? You'll have nothing, not even a couple of moves in forum to get back to.
So please, pretty pretty please with sugar on top, post moves! You'll be glad you did when plans go wrong. Whatever you do with the moves once you get online according to plans is up to you. Either replay and continue from there, or start a fresh game, I don't mind either way. Just agree. Agreement makes me very happy
OK?
Happy Thudding!

that's cool oograh, I'll adhere to that from now on, but I think that its not so good cos confusion can reign as to how this semi-forum game is gonna go, and, if one were nefarious enough, could result in people profiting from it in a hypothetical situation where they are winning a forum game that the other person is only playing out of necessity and regulation, rather than attempting to win. It would hen be to there advantage not to turn up to the live game. This is hypothetical you understand, but I just don't like to start playing a game when I know it is likely that I will be stopping after a few moves to play live as it means that the oppostion have an insight into how I might play and I don't like to play bits of a game live and bits forum as they are two completely different games!
Anyhoo, I will post forum now! please feel free to swat these objections as one might an insolent fly!

I do understand what you're trying to say, but you should keep in mind that the rules for TT06 state that forum is default. The other person you mentioned would be quite ill-advised to only play out of necessity and regulation. Thud, and TT06 doubly so, is serious business.

I do.
but I just don't like to start playing a game when I know it is likely that I will be stopping after a few moves to play live as it means that the oppostion have an insight into how I might play!
Now you've got me interested. You've got a point, and a very good one at that. Right now, and right here, we're talking Mr Scrub, Palm, and SANEAlex. Practically family (hells, one of 'em even is!
), so I don't think they will. But I promise we'll take this into consideration when we evaluate TT06, and possibly plan for TTxx.
On the other hand, I stated in my previous post that "Agreement makes me very happy!" If you are adamant that any forum posts should be replayed in a possible online game later on, so they will. Once you post moves, you've made a commitment. It's up to either and both of you to replay, or decide to start afresh.
please feel free to swat these objections as one might an insolent fly!
Never do. All constructive feedback will be taken into consideration. Thanks for your input! Appreciated!

If I can add something?
Dwarves are Small makes a good point, but there's a problem with the argument. Seeing as how just about any game played online is open to spectators (either by reading in the forums or looking it up in the database) it seems that if I really wanted an insight into how DaS (or Palm, or SANEAlex or Mr. Scrub, or any other potential Thudmeister!) might play, all I have to do is look online. In fact, as preparation for TT06, part of what I did was spend a couple of informative days digging through the forum, reading old games. In fact, those finished games would probably give more insight than a couple of moves posted at the beginning of a game.
I wouldn't worry about it too much. Seems to me that if you want to be the best, you've got to put up with a certain amount of people studying your style, right? Anyway, that's my $0.02...
28:06:42:12...
Thanks, Dearmer! Indeed, TT06 is as much about finding out who's the best, as it is about how he did it
.
Finally, an update.
Palm vs SANEAlex, online, ongoing. First half is ready to scrutinise.
Happy Thudding!

Another update, and this time it's one you won't find anywhere else. Palm vs SANEAlex online crashed during second half, and they decided to continue by general chat (as opposed to private chat). A referee was present for all of the game. It might not have been as nice and cosy as it could've been at Lee's kitchen table, but it sure was a very special experience. So kudos to both SANEAlex and Palm for improvisation skills and perseverance!
Sadly, we had a no show as well. Mr Scrub waited for over two hours, but his appointment with DaS never came to be.
DaS, if you can read this: having connection or computer troubles? Please contact any of us ASAP!
Happy Thudding!

I have apologised to Mr.scrub but I never knew that he waited that long.... My parents dragged me to a cheesy musical with not enough notice for me to tell Mr.s that i could not play...
I may also be stated as a no-show for das v palm, as I thought that our game was at 21:30, rather than 21:00 (as I have just read) Palm if u r reading this then I am still on the forum till 10: 30: Catch me if u can.
Seriously.... really sorry to be probs the first no-show of this tourn. My forum replies have also been fairly slow, but this is because I have been really busy with holiday work and, among other things, bike crashes!!
please accpet my apologies....

Update for
-Mr Scrub vs SANEAlex, online, finished.
Happy Thudding!

Update for DaS vs SANEAlex, online first half. They agreed on a score, the saved half game is unfinished.
Happy Thudding!

Right. I need to do this in several posts and updates, to avoid myself making mistakes.
Update for DaS vs SANEAlex, second half, finished online 2658.
But!
Although getgame will show DaS - SA as:
that is not the actual score! They agreed on a score to make time and go ahead with next half.
Lucky they did, because in second half the game crashed and they needed to play by chat.
So getgame SA - DaS will show this:
but actually they played a lot of moves after that.
Both savegames can be found at the pages.
Happy Thudding!

And an update for DaS vs Mr Scrub as well, online 2665, finished. Same here: DaS offered to end the game with a likely score. Mr Scrub agreed.
So DaS vs Mr Scrub looks like this on getgame, and in savegame on my site:
but the actual score was agreed upon: 3 - 32.
Happy Thudding!

And finally, one last update for today for Mr Scrub vs Palm, online 2669, finished. Please see the forum thread(s) for the who, when, what and how. Thank you MS for keeping us updated like that! And even a PM to go with it! Nicey nice!
Happy Thudding!

OB has referred to me a TT2006-2 situation for neutral, objective referees decision. DaS has failed to show for his online game scheduled at the pre-arranged time against Palm and offline communication suggests the game won't be going ahead within the allotted time frame.
As such I declare the game forfeit and award the win to Palm by default.
A quick look at the standings and it appears a complete and total victory by DaS would not have affected the results in any case.
OB has referred to me a TT2006-2 situation for neutral, objective referees decision.
Thank you, Lee. And since that was the last game to be played, we can tell who's the Finalists and the semifinalists.
Congratulations to Mr Scrub and Palm for making it to The Thud Tournament 2006 Finals! And same to Dwarves are Small and SANEAlex for making it to the semifinals!
Round Two games have been locked, and the pages have been updated.
However, a couple of the players had holidays planned. To be precise, some of them are away already. There's no fun playing a Final when your opponent's on holidays, right?
So, JUST THIS ONCE, since it's our first Tournament and all, we
This is absolutely no precedent, let us be totally clear on that. Any next Tournament, we set the timeslots, and you need to check if your plans can be wrapped around it before you sign up.
Right, that said, let's meet again august 22nd. I'll set up the threads as usual, and players can continue TT06 from there on.
Have a nice one, and see you then!
