TT2006 - Round 1, heat 2: DAS vs Dearmer

Druid

Finally, here's what we've all been waiting for: TT2006!

This is a standard post to give you some thoughts before you start this game. Please read this carefully, there are some additional last moment rules and clarifications below:
1. this game is intended for the players named in the topic.
2. it doesn't matter which one of you two posts first.
3. if you're the first one to post, use it to post a move, just to be sure; if you'd like to play online give any details like probable times online etc. and hope your opponent will be able to play online as well; otherwise, he will post a response move.
4. REMEMBER: THE DEFAULT IS FORUM!. If your opponent would like to play forum, there's no way to it but to agree.
5. (if played on forum) this game needs to be double unlimited!
6. both of you need to play a couple of other games, with other opponents, simultaneously; if this is the first topic you found, check the forum for any other TT2006 topics with your name!
7. the game needs to be ended at monday july 24th, 23.59 BST. That's British Summer Time. The game and thread will be locked at that time. If the game has not ended yet, the scores of the game still stand. Should the topic still be open: all posts after that time will be disregarded.
8. if there should be any disagreement, or breaking of rules, please notify the referee (Oograh Boike) by email or PM. I can't monitor all games, so please notify ASAP if a referee is needed.
9. (if playing on the forum) make sure you have "email notification on posts" on; that way you will get an email every time there's been a post in this thread.

Things we forgot to mention in the rules, and/or things we'd like to clarify a bit further:
10. The scores of all of your games in each round will be added up to give your final score. If you make it to the next round you will start with a 0 score again.
11. A list of all players can be found on oograhboike.com , in a few hours from now.

The rest of this post is only for those who decide to play the game online:
12. Dewi is working hard on a new client, to be released before the start of TT2006, but be wary anyway: most second half savegames used to screw up. If you'd like to suspend a game, do so in the first half preferrably.
13. the one who challenges, gets a notification of game number. Remember that number! If you're the one who's been challenged, you won't see that number. Remember to ask your opponent for it! All this refers to database, use this number in any posts, emails to OB, and savegames (should you have them).
14. Yes, if you could save games in ThudBoard while you play, that would be so much easier for OB. It takes a bit of work to make savegames out of database, so any bit of help is much appreciated.

One last remark: there's eight of you who signed up. I made two heats of four players. Missus OB was kind enough to pull the names out of a hat.
Best two of both heats go on to the next round. Best two of that round will play the final; runners up will play semi-final.

Good luck, and Happy Thudding!

Thanks OB!
Dearmer, I hope you are ok to play the live version of thud with the client thingy, as this is my desired method of play. If this is ok with you please post and suggest times that we could play online. If not, here is my move:
1 d G15 - H15
good luck and hope you can play live!

I can probably play live, but the best kinds of times for me will probably be evenings. It would work really good for me around 19.30-20.00 local (about 23.00-23.30 GMT) so if that's not the best kind of time for you, we can try something else.

I'm not sure if this counts as fair play, but can we make a gentlemen's agreement re: live games? Unless and until we arrange an actual time to duke it out on the client, how if we continue to volley a few set-up moves via the forum? The gentlemen's agreement part would be that when we settle on a live time, we can faithfully reproduce the game to date that way. Let me know what you think with respect to times, and that arrangement. If you want to continue (for the time being) like that, I'd counter your move with:

T H9 - J10

d F15 - O7

I know this sounds rude but I would prefer not to do what you have suggested (re:gentleman's agreement) as the moves that I am doing now are really to appease oograh before we play a live game. I can play at nearly any time of the day but your time 00:00-00:30 BST (my time) seems to be alittle bit of a small alottment and also is abit on the late side for me. Anything earlier that you can do, possibly on a weekend, would be much preferable. Many Thanks DAS
token moves:
1 d H15 - A8
2 T J7 - K7

Actually, it doesn't sound rude, or at least not to me. I wasn't actually suggesting just a half-hour window for gameplay -- that would be a very small alottment! Shocked That's perhaps the earliest starting time (maybe another half-hour earlier) that I could reliably count on a decent-sized block of time, and I do realize that it's pretty late in the evening for you, due to the time difference.

That's partly why I countered with moves in the forum: I was a bit worried that time difference might make it difficult to set up a time online. So rather than get dinged with penalties, I also wanted to appease OB. I'm thinking of my next moves, but I'll wait a bit to post them -- we might work something out before penalty time.

How much of a block of time were you counting on? I had been looking at an hour to an hour and a half, and with work and family commitments, that would make most evenings better for me. However, I could probably do something earlier on a Saturday or a Monday. Can you suggest times that are good for you?

I reckon if u can do it so we start 11:00ish GMT +1 I could do it cos that means we should end @ 1 at the latest which is doable. I could do 2mrw night poss but not def. otherwise this thurs/fri evening should be doable.

I can probably swing even as early as 10.30 (GMT+1) if we're lucky. The trouble is that I'm back to work after a few days' vacation, and while my hours are usually pretty flexible, this is a week when they're less so -- hence the evening preference. Plus my inlaws are visiting, so it makes for a bit more complication into the mix.

I might also be able to pull off tomorrow night, but not definitely. How soon would you know?

So after our discussion on the client this evening, it seems like we're agreed to play online Wednesday evening, then, around 10:00pm your time. I'm content to let this thread drop, if you are...

I think we must have missed each other. I will wait a little longer but otherwise we should arrange another time. Same time 2mrw?
