Koom Valley Thud rules question: Trolls moves

Having played a few games, one problem keeps coming up that I can't find a solution to in the rules: can a Troll move to the space directly in between two (or more) dwarfs without being instantly captured? Believe it or not, there have been a few times this would have been a valid strategy. There are several possibilities I can think of:

1)A Troll may not move to the space in between two dwarfs (A la a king not being able to move into check in chess)

2)A Troll moving into a space between two Dwarf is instantly captured, this uses the Dwarf player's turn.

3)A Troll moving into a space between two Dwarf is instantly captured, the Dwarf player may continue their turn.

4)A Troll moving into a space between two Dwarf is not instantly captured, but if they are still in that position at the end of the Dwarf's turn, the Troll is captured.

5)A Troll moving into a space between two Dwarf is not captured until a Dwarf move makes the Troll be in between two Dwarfs that it wasn't previously in-between. (this is like the situation of Dwarfs moving next to the Trolls in the standard -non KV- rules of Thud: they aren't captured unless the Troll moves to another adjacent position)

A second question would be whether a Troll can move to a square in between two Dwarfs and then continue to a square further along, ie moving _through_ a capture position.

A quote from the KVT rules doc:

A piece may safely be moved to come to rest between two opposing pieces. Captures are only made when the capturing side moves a piece.

I guess that answers your question? The doc can be found at my site, use the link in my signature and go to the "downloads" section.

Cheers,

KVT Trampling

A troll moves up to 3 squares T...

to quote KVT rules -

Quote:

A troll captures a dwarf by trampling over it. It moves in a straight line from a square next to the dwarf, through the square the dwarf is on and lands on the empty square immediately beyond

So - a troll can capture TD..
and wouldn't have enough stride to capture T..D
but can a troll capture T.D.

?

I have another question here.... First, just to clarify. T.D. The troll can capture the dwarf, right? How about T..D. ?

Second-- a troll moves in between two dwarves. DTD. Now, it's the dwarves turn. To capture a troll, the dwarf has to move a piece... but if it moves a totally different piece, so that the situation remains DTD (without either dwarf moving), is the troll captured? Because if not, then this is a very safe move on the trolls part--the dwarves will have to spend two moves to capture the troll. Once to move away, then again to move back. Having looked at a save game of yours, Oograh, it appears that the troll is safe. Am I right?

As Oograh is on his hols. A Troll can only take a Dwarf that is right next to that troll with a space for it to move into on the other side but like a king in checkers if there is another dwarf that can be taken from the square the troll has moved into it can continue to take so if "." are spaces Td.d.d. the troll could take all 3 but T.d.d. the troll cant take and Td.dd the troll can only take 1 d and if there was another dwarf that could move into the position of the first dwarf taken the troll would be vulnerable to be taken back.

Also as trolls can move horizontaly, vertically and diagonally the taking can be quite interesting.

..Td.
.d..d
...d.

would end up

T..x.
.x..x
...x.

with the "x"s being dead dwarfs.

Yes the troll is safe between 2 dwarfs a dwarf can only take by an active move so the dwarfs would have to move one away and back again to take it.
