Game requests. ***Post your game requests here.*** (closed topic)

--->edit by administrator, january 9, 2007: because of new developments (see last reply to this topic) this thread has been locked and isn't sticky anymore. end of edit.

User open for games should indicate this by replies to this topic. Any limitations or preferrence to the game to be played should be indicate in this reply.

When you stop beeing availiable for games you should edit your reply to indicate this.

If you at a later stage again become availiable for more games you should post that as a new reply.

If you are continously availiable long enough that your request is followed by more than 7 closed game requests you can duplicate your reply to prevent it from beeinb lost, You should then edit the original reply to indicate that it has been duplicated and should no longer be seen as active.

When requesting games against an opponent that is open for games this should be handled via the forums pm system with a set of concrete suggestions as to how the game should be played.(single/double, limited/unlimited, kn/classic)
When recieving such a request and if one of the concrete suggestions is accetable you should select one and create a topic for the game with your selection and your first move(if you have a first move to make) and send a reply via the pm system. If the suggestions he makes is unacceptable then matters can proceed as if he had indicated that he was open for games.(e.g. you are free to send your own suggestions back to him)

Sticking to this means that game requests would be gathered at the end of this topic and that the rules for the game is agreed when the game starts.

Don't hesitate to contact me...

From where i could know what I write, before I read the written?

Sorry I'm German.

Amateur match

Is there anyone out there who's still pretty new to all this?

I've never played a Thud! game, but I'd really like to. Are there any other amateurs out there who fancy a learning experience?

Original rules, and I think I'd prefer unlimited, but if we seem to be taking forever don't mind restricting it later... and single would be easiest to begin with.

So, any one want to learn-as-we-go, fantastic.

Best wishes to you all.

Pidgeon.

Very Happy

Im up for a game of single unlimited.
This will be my first online game though,
Anyone interested?

Since my latest forum opponent bailed on me in mid-game, I'm looking for a chance to sharpen up my game in preparation for the tournament. I've got no preference for single/double. but a double limited game might get done before the fun starts. Or, if you wanted to play another way, as long as you'd be willing to let things stand until the end of the tournament...

Any takers?

Hi. I'm a new player looking for a match.

Any type of game (unlimeted/30 move, single/double)
Experienced players are welcome. I am a quick learner and don't mind being beaten.

I have a cunning plan that cannot fail!

Hi - I am new player, I've never played online before and only played thud twice. I don't mind whether I play against new/experienced player and would prefer a traditional single/double unlimited, though I can be flexible. Any1 wanting a game? Pretty please?

Hello,

I'm just getting into Thud and looking for an opponent to test my newfound abilities against.

Double Unlimited seems to be the standard around here, although I'm open to whatever rules are wanted.

Any takers?

Edit: Still waiting for a game, in case anyone thought I was just making my first post and never coming back.

Founding PatronBronze Member

Hello, Oneiron, and welcome to the forums. If you are still not occupied, I would be delighted to play with you. If you don't have a game going yet, I'm sorry you had to wait so long. I think a lot of folks are out of town at the moment, on holiday and whatnot.

Double unilimited works for me. Shall I start a thread?

-M.

Thankyou verymuch. Sounds Great. Catchyou in the thread.

Bronze Member

Coming to the end of three games, I'm back in the market for a new opponent. Is anyone free for good old fashioned Double Unlimited? PM me.

Game accepted

Hi Ponder - I'd love to take up your offer of a game. I'm finding it confusing getting around the new forum style, my 'watches' or 'alerts' or 'thingies that tell you when things are posted' doesn't seem to work, so there may have been a time since you posted this response. I thought it had been quiet since 'the big jump' - so if you are still up for it please open a thread and I'll see if I can find it.

Hi everybody.

Bronze MemberDruid

Hi everybody.
Just looking for someone to play a game of Thud!
It's been a while since I played my last game (just before I decided Thud! was cool and bought a board), so I need some practice.
I don't know how to rate my non-existant skill, but I'm ready to play anyone.

I would also like a game.

Dear Thudgame community,

After some time 'lurking' and watching others play live games, I have finally taken the plunge and signed up for this account. I would be interested in playing someone, although I haven't played very many games myself.

Thank you,
Guest0001

Anyone up for a game?

I'm interested in playing a game with someone. I'm just starting to learn how to play so I haven't played much yet.

Forum play, single or double unlimited sought.

Seems we have Four (4) new players wanting games....But not with each other? Or am I mistaken? Mazur, Kuda, Guest001 and Elerias.

Having been the inventor of the Poon's Offensive I might be setting myself up for a fall here 'cause really I'm not ~that~ good, it was a drug-induced flash of brilliance. But if one of you would like to play I have just finished getting board smacked by SANEAlex Smile and find myself free.

First in and all that

EDIT
OK - Oneiron - another fairly new player took me up, but if one of the four mentioned wants to play, still good

Edit - number 2 - Kuda, has accepted all Opponents found thank-you

Double unlimited works fine for me.

A question of etiquette.

Good Morning Ladies and Gents,

Forgive my ignorance, for I am new around these parts, but I was wondering about a point of etiquette on requesting/accepting Thud games on the forum. If, for example, I had replied to someone's "I'm open for a game" post, but they had not got back to me in - say 24 hours, and I was impatient to start, is it OK to proposition others, or indeed to let it be known that I am looking for a game?

(Incidentally, I AM looking for a game. Olde Style, Single for preference. This would be my first forum game, though I've played tabletop Thud a couple of times).

Hello and welcome Sweeper on the point of etiquette it is ok to challenge and play many people at once. Tho if you have accepted a challenge and even if they do not reply within 24 hours you accept another challenge i would think it bad etiquette to drop the first challenge even if you wanted to only play one game at once.

This is a very international site and lots of players are in a wide range of time zones and with differing levels of English ability so some responses can take a while and the Thud day can be almost 36 hours long Wink

They way i have handled to open closed for game is a few posts away in this thread i posted an open for games message and when i had as many as i can handle i edited the thread to show closed for new games.

I think that with the way the new forum looks that there may be a more user friendly way for game challenges to be handled and when i have thought it thru i will post in the suggestions box thread but there is nothing to stop others doing so b4 me if they have a good idea.

Also for every ones info it is useful to use the PM and email to arrange games but in the new forum these options have to be enabled by each user. I think that i should point out for those who are worried about spam and losing control of their email address that if you enable the email option on this site your email address is not shown to the sender you get an email from this site on their behalf so if you do get spam/abuse it can be reported to the site admins for action to be taken without the spammer/abuser getting hold of your email address.

Hello Sweeper! And welcome to the thudgame site; we hope you like it here and have an enjoyable time! Very Happy

Just to elaborate on this, to send an e-mail to someone just click on their name and click the "Contact" tab in their profile page.

If you enable the personal contact form and someone e-mails you they DO NOT get your e-mail address, The site protects this at all times. The only way someone can get your e-mail address is if you reply to their e-mail. You don't have to do this; if you wish to reply but keep your e-mail address private from another site member, you have the option of going to their profile page and sending them an e-mail via their contact form or sending them a private message (PM).

Jut to repeat, your e-mail address is always kept private on the site. Neither the web contact form, nor your profile page, display your e-mail address to anyone but site admins. If they abuse it we have a deep, dark scorpion pit Twisted Evil

I always thought the original method, to which Palm still holds, worked perfectly: to wit, opening a thread called, "looking for a game," or, "Palm vs ....," for example. That way the requests are right there in the forum list where all can see. If a request, especially from a new person, goes unanswered for a long time, I think that's rude, and I think it's easy to miss them buried in that thread. I know I only open that thread when I'm looking for a game, and sometimes I find new people who've been waiting a long time. We probably would at least wlecome them if we saw their thread going unanswered.

But that's just me.

How True. I see there's one such thread open and unreplied to. That seems a good place to start! Thanks for the warm welcome, I have hopes of settling in nicely, but let's see how my first game goes...

Indeed.
The only downside to that is, that original posters can't edit their topic anymore. It takes administrators to do that. So "Palm vs ..." stays "Palm vs ..." until an administrator helps out. No problem there, I'm very willing to help if you PM me about it (preferrably with a suggestion, I can't keep track so I don't know if a game is the second between both opponents, or third, or x-th).
All I'm saying is, both options have their downsides, and ups. Either is fine with me.

Welcome to Sweeper, by the way.

Happy Thudding!

Open to new games

Hi!

I'm the Italian newbie.
I think I'm ready for my FIRST game, and (if you don't mind) I prefer a classic and single game due my total ineptitude. Maybe with someone with a little experience so I can learn while my ass is kicked Laughing

Three of the four friends above ar australian, an emisphere away from me, so the game will be VERY slow due the low ratio of reply (but if you don't mind I'm at your disposal...).

Wizzard, you are german, right? On my same time zone... if you think that 2 newbie should try toghether I'm open to possibilities.

I'm on-line often in the afternoon and noon... from 15 to 23 + or - (I work with a computer and the rhytm of a library is sometimes veeeery slow). Obviously Italian time zone: GMT +1.00

PS: Wizzard... i send you a PM Cool
