Going Postal-How about it?

Librarian

So, yeah. Part 1 debuted tonight on Sky one, and it was good.

Ha, yeah, I'm going to say more than that on it.
Personally, I found the start a bit jarring, getting used to matching Lipwig to the actor, but once that was through with, he started to do a really good job playing the role. The script seems to be very similar to the original text, far more-so than Hogfather (Which lifted some memorable dialogue, but little else) and The Colour Of Magic(Which, due to extreme abridging, only had one or two lines remain intact, mostly Rincewind quotes).

The casting was, as with previous adaptations, brilliant (Exception-David Jason as Rincewind). I now have the hots for Adora's actress, so I'd say that was mission accomplished, and Stanley's actor gets special mention as utterly perfect. Scenery is also well selected, and if I hadn't known beforehand, I wouldn't of noticed it as Budapest, but instead as the twin city of Proud Ankh and Pestilent Morpork...more-so Ankh.

Incase you haven't noticed, I really am enjoying this so far but...
"This is Mustrum Ridcully, a wizard from the university"

Aaaaargh! This really irritates me. The wizard in question does not NEED to be named as Ridcully. THIS is my Ridcully:

Why would you mention the name when you can't back it up with the same actor?

Another nitpick is the (now blonde and Charles-Dancified) Patricians Thud board. WHY IS IT SQUARE?!? It's a chess board...That's just lazy! I only saw it for a second, and for some reason, people don't want me to rewind stuff their watching (Pshawh!) but I'm certain it was a bog-standard Chess board. Not even a stealth-chess board.

Feel free to ignore the last 3 paragraphs. It's good.

Discuss, please?

Re: Going Postal-How about it?

Yup, I saw Going Postal on Sky One last weekend - thoroughly enjoyed it. In fact I think my venture back to thudgame.com after a few years probably had something to do with the show.

Yes - I noticed the square thudboard, and was thoroughly disgusted. Nearly sent an email-of-wrath that very moment but a. didn't want to miss the rest of the show, and b. didn't know who to send it to. The other thing that annoyed me was that all the golem suits were cast from the same mould as Mr Pump. Even Golems have uniqueness, 'they all look the same' is just an expression of bigotry!

On the other hand, there was a few laughs - it definitely improved as it went along.

Right - let's see who still posts here I remember.

I'll let you get back to calibrating your thaumic manipulatorivator.

Cheers

Overall i really enjoyed it understanding the need to cut and streamline things for the screen i think that was done well and it was well acted, i was glad to be a part of it. My one but was the square Thudboard it unforgivable as they had been given a proper one i can only assume it got lost going over to Budapest but some how the Thud pieces survived transit along with how to layout the board.

Well if your standing on a steeper part of the bell curve its just a question of perception and the direction you are looking in. Wink Twisted Evil

sooo, i finally watched it and... i just dont know. overall, i've seen worse movies (but i've seen better ones, too). i can just about remember the plot outline of the book, so i cant really comment on how much they left out or changed.
i absolutely hated the golems, they looked like men in plastic suits. which they probably were. but that's not really a reason for them to look like it. the banshee was rather laughable imo, too. i dont agree with "revealing" angua as the werewolf in the watch, either.
there were several other scenes were i just went "omg, this is ridiculous", but there were other scenes i absolutely loved as well. and while i still think vetinari ought to have dark hair, i cant really bring myself to care because omg charles dance was fantastic!!!!!!!!
