When I made my game request topic, I tried to tag it as "game request", "forum game". I typed those two words, separated by commas and enclosed in the "Thud:" input box under Categories. What I got instead, of two tags, was what looked like every single tag in existence.
Was I doing something wrong or is the tagging system bugged?

Don't worry too much about it. I have been told not to touch the tagging at all since it is so complicated that no mortal would ever get the system. That's why I decided to leave it up to them.

welcome to the site! your problem is a known one. it's not actually a problem. not for me, anyways. it's just that sometimes, if the author of a post attempts to tag it, they see every tag the site has. everyone else only sees the ones that are meant to be there or none. no idea why that is but if it scares people enough to make them stop tagging i'm not complaining

the tag system isnt actually that complicated. but the point of the tags is to categorize posts, so it helps if the tags are the same. since there are lots of ways to describe one and the same thing it's easiest if the people who started the "system" and created the tags and all that (and have access to the tag database) do the tagging. which would be me. so dont worry about tagging, i drop in here about once a day and will tag any new threads

Okay. I've got to ask, though; couldn't the tagging box be collapsed, like the Input format and Smileys boxes, so it doesn't look like you're supposed to be using it?

probably. but the only people who could do that are our admins, who are MIA... it is a good idea though.

Quick update - Dewi's in the Lone Star State hobnobbing with various and sundry famous folk. I'm trying to keep body and soul together in the midst of a recession and doing a damned fine job of it if I do say so myself, but, yeah, looking at the PM list from an uncomfortably long time ago I'll need to login as me way more often.
Gonna try to do a massive site upgrade here soon after which (assuming success, which I rate as having a probability of no more than 8.32%) we can do some more cool stuff and things like tagging will be a bit more user friendly.
Anyway, greetz to all and off to do a bit of work here...
