Hey.
Haven't been playing an awful lot, but one of the few things I've found when playing online is that my poor head sometimes can't get around the 3-D board display. I like to play watch my moves with Thudboard so I can get a bird's-eye view of the game. If I use 'spinwise' and 'widdershins' to rotate the board, I usually have the devil's own time remembering which way is 'up!' Would it be possible to include a constant point of reference, like an arrow floating free of the board that turns with it (always pointing, for lack of a better word, 'North?)
Just a suggestion...

A top-down view, like you get in thudboard, has been suggested before (see the thread a few bits), and is (I believe) on the 2Do list, tho I couldnt say with how much urgency it's being treated. I suspect not a great deal, since that list is incredibly scarey-looking...

"LOOKS PERFECTLY LOGICAL TO ME"
Yeah, it terrifies me, but I just take it a bite at a time.
A 2d layout is exactly the same as a 3d layout, so far as the code is concerned. It's just a matter of skins.
So, I need to get the skinning file format finalised so that people can do this.
In the roadmap, the order looks like:
1) Include other display elements on the board (menus, usernames, portraits(?), scores, who's-turn indicator)
2) Design, implement and release the skinning file format specification
3) Someone creates a 2D skin.
Despite being three levels down, behind two rather large items, this is still high priority: those two other items are very high priority things.
