this game cant possibly be this one-sided, i know you play both sides, but man, dwarves get the worst of it. just when you seem to get a decent number of dwarves formed- thud! there goes half of them and its some what impossible to get another one going. any successful openings anyone?

Re: troll hunt for dwarves?
I think openings are quite hard, because dwarfs normally grow stronger with time. Once one or 2 trolls are caught and the trolls do not have it that easy to block any more, there is the big chance for dwarf.

Re: troll hunt for dwarves?
For beginner players trolls most deffinately have a good advantage...but now i have been playing a fair while i am getting used to dwarf moves and strategies. I would even say i am better at dwarves than i am at trolls, and have put a few troll players on the back foot from the start... check out last years tournament, there was some good dwarf moves there by a few players

Re: troll hunt for dwarves?
i agree with ponder. trolls are definitely easier for beginners, but once you've figured dwarf strategies out the dwarfs' speed and number is a definite advantage. it just needs more practice and is less straight forward than trolls.

Well you wanted successful openings. Well there usually are two openings: Either putting a dwarf on J14 or moving G15-H15 (or of course the same thing in any other corner). But much more important is it of how you go from there. I suggest you look into OB's fundus http://www.oograhboike.com/ where you find a lot of games plus a selection of very interesting moves.
I hope that helps
