Hello,
I am a new user, so I do not know if this is normal
when go to the "Thud Online" page, there is nobody on the chat, but the left side panel indicates there are 20 people on line
how come I do not see anybody?
Thanks in advance.

Re: nobody there
Yeah I wouldn't worry about that, a lot of chatrooms are like that, people sign on then do other things, or leave the room without signing off properly which means they continue to be displayed till they time out. These things are alas not unusual in the world of chat.
P.S. Welcome
That ain't no English I ever dun heard!
Re: nobody there
welcome.
the who's online on the left refers to the people on the site, not those on the chat. the chat is usually empty, sorry about that. we don't have enough active users and not many have the time and patience to sit in the live and wait for someone else to come on.

Re: nobody there
I think what Gratesnif was referring to is the box at the bottom of the left-hand column that you see in every page on the site. Where it says
There are currently 1 user and 21 guests online.
There are two reasons why there can be lots of people listed there, and no-one connected to the live game. The first is that, IIRC, Lee reckons a fairly large number of the 21 guests are non-human (search engines etc) so will never connect to the game. The second reason is that it's decided based on who's active somewhere on the thud website, not on who's playing at that moment. So at the moment I'm writing this reply, and am therefore listed as an Online user, but I'm not in the chat.

Re: nobody there
But it really is sad. I often log in and stay in the chat room for 30-60 min and the only thing that does happen is, that guest sign in and drop out 30secs later on. What happened to all the people that were around before the chat-room went down? Did they all realize that there is another far away from the thudboard or what? What is this myth about a life like that anyways. Can someone explain it to me? Maybe I will try this at one stage. who knows...

Re: nobody there
Then, How do you play against other players?
Re: nobody there
It is only possible life, if someone else is logged on in the chat, where you can challenge people for a game. I do recommend to ask the person concerned before as it is considered a bit rude, just to challenge someone.
The other opportunity is to play a "slow motion" Forum game. A list of people open for Forum games can be found here: http://www.thudgame.com/node/212
