If you had $58 billion

If you were Bill Gates (or just happened to have $58billion), what would you buy?

I think personally, I'd start with Iceland Very Happy It's only got a GDP of $12billion, so surely they'd settle for 5 years' output as a nice fair price? Wink

If i had $58billion I'd join the space race on a grander scale and also spend money on a few phd's to develop a decent AI to solve problems that cant be solved by money alone then ask it about paradoxes Wink Twisted Evil and with what's left over try out decadent lifestyles with friends and family.

Re: If you had $58 billion

I would quite like the challenge of trying to stay the same person I was before. Anotherthough would be to try and found out the balance of how many socks do I need to buy to put all the money in I'm using for bying my socks as well and therefore will be less than $58billion because of the socks bought so the question remains how many pairs of socks is needed and also where do I store it wich will probably be another house so less money for the socks and therefore also less socks so more money left to store in the socks wich means more socks again... It just is too complicated. Maybe I'll settle for Alexes AI.

Re: If you had $58 billion

i would spend half a billion on property, lifestyle optimisation and general debauchery...then the rest i would use to fund creative solutions to the world's problems, creating awareness for various causes which would drastically change the standard of living in this world.

i would also spend much of that money on chocolate, maybe buy an island...one which comes with a built in coffee maker

Oh, I know, I'd convert most of It to Icelandic Krona, and become their GOD! Do you think I could pull of a cape and huge war-axe?
Oh, and an anti-chav spray to be sprayed over the planet by crop sprayers...I'm not racist, they ACTUALLY try to be violent and thuggish.
Sorry about that, went out walking and was almost "jumped", bit irked.

Re: If you had $58 billion

I would bank it in an account under a false name in the Camans, earn billions on the interest, buyout the US military and Microsoft, take control of all the worlds computers and hold them for ransom for even more billions, keep the worlds computers anyway, buyout the worlds armies, assume control of the planet, get bored with it, give it to my friend, build a fleet of spacefaring colony ships, go and look for a new planet to buy out. (insert 'find a means of immortality' in there somewhere)

Army surplus? Why not just buy a complete standing army?

Re: If you had $58 billion

Well for me it would be because you can sell army surplus (wouldn't know what to do with it anyways), whereas it will be difficult selling an army (Well, I wouldn't know what to do with the army neither...)

Re: If you had $58 billion

Take over the world, then the galaxy, then the universe, then try to find a way to another dimension. All you need is an army. (the US's one would be nice)
