This is a strange sort of announcement - it's me announcing that I've just seen these buttons marked "Give Kudos", but I don't really know what they're all about... Hopefully as the thread takes shape, it'll turn into a real announcement from our site god overlords...

Re: Kudos
Hi MS,
Weeelll, I've "successfully given" you Kudos, that do not seem to appear under the Kudos section in your profile.... But you're welcome to them anyway

Re: Kudos
yep, spotted them some 2 days ago (i think). i thought i'd just sit and wait for someone to announce what they are. seems my plan hasn't worked so far, which doesn't matter because i'd forgotten about them in the meantime and will have again by the time i get up tomorrow.....

Re: Kudos
i also spotted them about two days ago and when i clicked the "give kudos" thingy nothing happened then i looked at my profile there they were listed above the thudpoints but without further information.
so i thought i'd just wait for some kind of announcement from whoever invented them and now waits for us to give them away.....

Re: Kudos
Hehe, SP, did you recieve any Kudos? I wanted to see whats happening and you just can't give yourself a Kudo. But lets make a bet what they are for

Re: Kudos
and you can only give a person one kudo in a yet to be determined period of time. i gave ob a kudo yesterday and the button is gone. then i gave sp a kudo just now and the button is gone too....

Re: Kudos
I know that i can't give kudos to myself cos the button with the troll is not in my own posts only in those of other people, but if i click on other peolpe's kudo button, they don't seem to get kudos either.
but, as for guessing what they are for..... maybe we should be grateful that it doesn't work, for to me the troll somehow suggests that a kudo might be a whack on the head!?!

Re: Kudos
i have to withdraw what i said before. the button doesn't disappear for the user, just for the kudo'd post. so i'll go back to my first assumption: it's a rating system for posts. a post gets a kudo if it's good or helpful. the problem there is that there's no way to see how many kudos a post got, so all you could see is if a user posts a lot of good/helpful posts. :-S
if it's a whack to the head i vote for enabling it for yourself. every now and then i would just love to whack myself over the head....

Re: Kudos
I can give a kudo for each individual post...
I've seen kudos on other sites but they're usually calculated with online time and post count etc. like a level system...
Maybe they'll replace the thudpoints entirely?

i wasn't aware that kudos is an actual word and not a product of the twisted minds of certain people
else i would have done this much earlier:
Kudos (pronounced /ˈkjuːdɒs/, often /ˈkuːdoʊz/), from the Greek κῦδος (not to be confused with κύδος "taunt"), kydos, (literally "that which is heard of") means "fame" and "renown" resulting from an act or achievement. Extending "kudos" to another individual is often done as a praising remark. It entered English as British university slang in the early 1800s. In Standard British English, as in Greek, Kudos is a singular and not a plural noun, and is used exclusively as such in Britain. However, in common use in the US the noun is often plural: She received many kudos ['ku:doʊz] for her work.
The term is often attributed to recognition in the workplace with many Employee Recognition Programs developed solely to recognize the achievement of individuals.
seeing how dead the forum has been these last weeks it might just be a trick to get us talking though.
