I just usually quote the previous post and edit my moves in that way i can check i have replied to the right moves b4 deleting the previous persons posted moves. I have been known to play several games at once and also the Chinese wall helps prevent crossover posts in double games for me at least.

Well as dwarfs i think in the early game you have to sacrifice a few for position and i play trolls to get out to 4 of the 7a corners as quick as possible.

Yeah, the sacrifice seems to be needed, but I think it would have been better if I had moved my sacrificial-dwarf to K8. That way I would have stolen two moves for you. Instead I moved it so that you could take the dwarf, without really losing any momentum.

On the other hand, singe-trolls are quite easy to stop with a dwarven wall, so it might be good to at least group them 2 and 2, or? Afterall, the strength of the initial setup is that the trolls can reach pretty much any group of dwarves in two moves.

I'm kinda curious though... when people get skilled with both the trolls and dwarves, who wins? I get the feeling that the dwarves have the advantage in the long run, but I'm a little uncertain

Sometimes you have to sacrifice a troll or 2 to break a block but on average if two reasonably good equal players play each other then trolls have the advantage by about 10 points but the game evens out as a full game both players play both ways. Tho if a good dwarf player is slightly better than the troll player then if the dwarf player builds a big enough block it can be devastating in the end game that's why i always suggest trolls get out to the sides of the board quickly to prevent strong dwarf blocks forming.

But getting trolls out costs moves. To get one troll out to an edge takes about three moves (not counting the initial shove of course) and that is enough time for a dwarf to build a block elsewhere. It's "counting moves" that gives me the hardest time, I think. My first dwarven block was one move to short, and therefore you smacked it with ease.

I was thinking it was the other way i think your dwarf block may be able to get at least one more troll whereas in your troll game can i think i can consolidate my dwarfs into a block before you get there but we will see as i say i am a bit out of practise so anything could happen.

I feel kinda dumb now! When I tested moves I must have forgotten to quicksave after my 11th dwarfmove, thus making my thudboard have two trollmoves in a row. So, yeah, I got a little unsynced!

Well even tho as i say i am a bit out of practise if these are your first games you are doing well are you also a chess player the skills seem to transfer? But i did expect you to move your troll to N8 and pick the block off 1 or 2 at a time before i could reinforce it rather than you swapping your troll for 3 dwarfs which in some circumstances i do think is a good idea if it breaks the block sufficiently.

Yes, I'm a chessplayer. My main problem here is that I make some good plans, plans at least a couple of moves ahead, then makes a stupid move like N7-O8, when I actually know it's suicide!

I can see no way to form a block with my dwarves that you cannot thud with ease within a couple of moves without risking any trolls. And while you might not be able to take every dwarf, you will be able to take pretty much all but one or two, so the dwarf game is over for me and the victory for that one is yours.

In the full game you score both halves together rather than win or lose each half so the best score is 64-0 tho this almost never happens. With 6 trolls when controlling the board i can usually get down to 4-6 dwarfs but in our current game it look to me like i only control 3 of the 7a corners if it were me i would try to make a block in the right hand corner as it shows on the thud board but if you don't want to continue in that half i would except a score of 24-6 if you want to concede it? tho as i say if it were me in that position i would continue for a little while more.

Thanks for going back a move. Oograh calls that position my Terrible Triangle even with my mistake thinking you had moved to M9 i could have held off one Troll it usually takes 2 Trolls to break it and if i can get enough re-enforcements quick enough it usually costs a Troll.

It's a strong formation, that much is clear, but doesn't it only work in the later stages of the game, when the trolls ability to move quickly towards the "borders" are more limited?

It does tend to be a more middle and end game kind of thing but if as dwarfs you get trolls to commit to one side of the board to break up the beginnings of block it sometimes gives you enough time to build a block on one of the other sides.
