Koom Valley Thud notation with multiple dwarf captures.

Hey Mc,

I noticed a problem in the notation of a KVT move where a Troll moves three times, and captures three dwarfs. This is what happened:
T F6 - H8 x G7
T H8 - F10 x G9
T F10 - F8 x F9
which is, as you can see, one move, with three captures.
In TB notation this would look like: T F6 - F8 x G7 x G9 x F9 , if you would like to keep it in "one move notation". But that doesn't really show how T jumped, and could lead to confusion.

Option 1 is rewriting TB to allow move notations like T F6 - H8 x G7 - F10 x G9 - F8 x F9 or something like that. Probably a tough nut to crack.
Option 2 is agreeing on the notation I used first. TB allows multiple moves by one player anyway, so no problem there. That would only require you to edit your "Playing Thud online" post, so other players will know how to get the moves across to their opponent.
Option 3 is something you'll most likely come up with, and is even better. Wink
I'll leave it up to you.

OB.

In fact, it shows exactly how T jumped, it's in the order of the captured Dwarfs... To capture G7 from F6 you gotta go to H8, there's no other way to capture the first dwarf... same for the two others Dwarfs.

There's one other problem though: there are ways for a Troll to capture Dwarfs and end up in exactly the same position it started (T F6 - F6 x G7 x J7 x J5 x G5), and ThudBoard won't accept a no-move... so you would need to handle that particular (rare?) move specially...

Ciao, Mc!

See, didn't I tell you you'd come up with an option 3?
Sorry, I hadn't noticed you could indeed read the order of jumps from the order of captures. Thanks for clearing that up!

Cheers,

OB.
