today, the australian elections were held. at 6pm EST the polls closed in NSW (though each state keeps the polls open till they reach 6pm) about four hours after, Labor's victory was clear and 6hrs after, The current leader (John Howard) had to aknowledge defeat. Labor won some 83 seats on the house of reps out of 150 and Howard's own seat was taken form him (not an assurance yet but chances are good he's out)
so, with no fursther adu, let me be the first to welcome the new fascist regimé (labor) to replace the old fascist regimé (liberal)
however now the senate is controlled by the libs while the house is not so power is split
P.S. I voted greens in the lower house which deffers to labor and Socialist alliance in the senate which deffers to greens

Re: [SgtL] Election '07 results
I forgot to mention, Liberals have been in power since 1996. 11 and a half year reign of terror.
only 75% of the votes have been counted but it looks like the senate is
37 coalition*
[34 liberal]
32 labor
5 greens
[2 national]
1 family first
[1 country liberal]
1 independant
78 total
this means that coalition leads ALP by 5 seats which is what the greens have so there's a sort of power. alas family first has a vote and they're a conservetive religius bunch with HQ in USA.
*coalition comprised of liberal, national and country liberal
the lower house is probably like so:
Party % Vote Swing Won Likely Total In Doubt Change Predict
Liberal 36.5 -4.4 48 1 49 4 -21 52
National 5.5 -0.4 10 0 10 0 -3 10
Labor 43.5 +5.8 83 1 84 1 24 86
Greens 7.8 +0.6 0 0 0 0 0 0
Family... 1.9 +0.0 0 0 0 0 0 0
Others 4.8 -1.6 2 0 2 0 0 2
so basically, that all means coalition 59, labor 84, 2 independant.
so basically labor has total and absolute control in the house.
these are all the parties hat ran:
Australian Democrats - had a slogan "keep the bastards honest" but they lost a lot of ground...getting back up though
Australian Fishing and Lifestyle Party - no real political agenda, just wanna fish
Australian Greens - GO GREENS!!
Australian Labor Party - Not entirley as bad as lib, and they basically ARE unions. 80% of their reps are ex union leaders
Australian Shooters Party - right wing, anti-greeny, no real political agenda
Carers Alliance - no real agenda but they want carers to get a better deal cos they're not really payed well
Christian Democratic Party - The most right wing conservative group yet. death to them! it's a secular state!**
Citizens Electoral Council of Australia - ultra right, observe*
Climate Change Coalition - Dr Karl (look him up) no real agenda other than climate change
Conservatives for Climate and Environment - nice enough. concerned about climate change but economically cnservative
Country Liberal Party - liberals...but in the country (nother territory only)
Democratic Labor Party - their site says a lot of nothng so i don;t trust them
Family First - amercan, religious, right wing
Liberal Party of Australia - they recent 11yr regimé
Liberty and Democracy Party - american group. right wing
Non-Custodial Parents (Equal Parenting) - no real agenda except custody law
One Nation - big rascist group
Pauline's United Australia Party - she was the leader of above group till she got arrested and then kicked out.***
The Fishing Party - no real agenda but they like to fish
The Nationals - coalition with the liberals
Senator On-Line - nice bunch. want to make a system where ppl vote online and they will reflect that vote in the senate.
Socialist Alliance - friends of mine, they make a paper called green left which shows the abuse of citizens here and abroad
Socialist Equality Party - seem nice but dad didn;t like them. they use "capitalist" a lot
What Women Want - no real agenda other than to get women into parliament

Re: [SgtL] Election '07 results
well not much change, they got about 79% of the votes in. Howard's still poised to lose his seat but wikipedia had him listed as ex-PM ages ago, even before the more accurate numbers came in. also the guy he was teasing with the leadership job's buggered off so their party is a bit lost
