Ok, got Thud for Christmas, and played a couple of games, but we're unsure about dwarf capturing. Can they form a line and capture on the same turn, or do they have to form a line, let the troll move and then capture. We assumed the first one, but I just wanted to check.

mmm not sure if I follow what you mean but ....
the dwarves form a line.
the troll takes their turn.
the dwarf at the front of the line is hurlled forward capturing a troll.
Its basically the same for the trolls.
And remember a single dwarf can capture a troll in the square next to it.
Hopefully that helps. Oh and welcome and have a happy newyear.
Right. Damnit, that means I lost twice to the GF cos we were using the wrong rules. See we tried it like that, and the trolls mowed through the dwarfs like they weren't there, so we changed to allowing a move and capture on the same turn for the dwarfs and they decimated the trolls.

The GF and I had some problems in regards to capturing also.
Is it possible to capture more than one Troll at a time with the dwarfs? Or do you just hurl them at one Troll at a time.
Example: 2 Trolls within 3 squares of your line of Dwarfs, and a line of 4 behind the front Dwarf...
"Buggrit, buggrit, millennium hand and shrimp, I told 'em..."
Sorry
one dwarf captures one troll...
the story in the rules is something like... the troll attacks --- swings his club and takes out hte adjecent dwarves... the Dwarf is hurlled and strikes the troll, daised it wonders off...
or something like that...
but there is nothing to say that you couldn't have a dwarf line/block set up to firstly take out a troll, then another... or even set it up so that it is attacking two trolls at once..
Thanks for the answer
We debated it for a while, but as I was playing the Troll side and managed a hefty number of captures fairly quickly, it seemed fair to allow her to make multiple captures for the Dwarfs for our first ever game.

Im assuming as per your post that you would be limited to taking one Troll on one move then waiting for your next move to come around to take another in the above situation?
Also Is it possible to jump over Trolls to get to one behind? Or do you hit the first Troll in the line and thats the only one you can hit?
EG. D D D D D _ _ T T T
Throw the front dwarf over the 2 empty squares and the first 2 Trolls to hit the last one? Does that make sense?
Sorry if these are daft questions, I'd really like to get going on the Forum Thud but would rather be fully clear on all the rules before I do. Dont want to make a fool of myself by playing dodgy moves
"Buggrit, buggrit, millennium hand and shrimp, I told 'em..."
EG. D D D D D _ _ T T T
sorry it is written somewhere that no peice can pass throught another ... trolls being made of rock and dwarves wearing armor.. so that would be a no to jumping over too.
the above example though you are guarinteed to get a troll.
Option 1. Dwarf move... Dwarf takes first troll...
Option 2. Troll move... troll takes first dwarf... dwarf takes that troll..
giving D D D _ _ D _ _ T T.. leaving troll to take that dwarf if they decide to..
Option 3. Troll move... first troll moves aside... lead Dwarf takes new lead troll... troll takes that dwarf...
losing a dwarf to capture a troll, I think is generally accepted as the troll is worth 4 while the Dwarf is just 1...
not sure if that makes sence...
Cheers for that... clarified the two points I was unsure of
"Buggrit, buggrit, millennium hand and shrimp, I told 'em..."
