Some guys in my school had a chess club which i converted quite easily into a thud club (we all had to chip in for boards though) after founding it i had to go on a short exchange down south (pointless i know) i left them with the rules but returned to find they were using koom valley version captures in the normal game i started paying this way and quite enjoyed it. if anyone else has done or does plz say if it is a good way to play?

Sounds a fantastic way to play! Interestingly Dewi and I had a chat with Trevor Truran at the Wincanton event (during the football game, precisely... well, someone had to be doing something useful then!
) and he said there are quite a few rules variations that may be appearing in various guises next year. We'll certainly be putting some up on the online game as soon as we get hold of them!
At Hogswatch Dewi and I tried playing Koom Valley Rules with the original positions the same as those for normal thud. We had to make one other change, since the way the trolls normally win under KVT is to get 3 trolls next to the stone, and obviously in the normal thud setup there are 8 trolls next to the stone straight away. We therefore said that trolls had to have moved to count in this regard. It was still very difficult for dwarves to win, but we did work out one way of stopping the trolls from winning too easily (though I cant remember what that way was off the top of my head).
