Re: A new book series!
ahh, there are so many:
The Dark Tower, by Stephen King, a personal almost-fav, first book is The Gunslinger (PM me if you start reading that one, some explanations are needed). King is one of the best horror authors ive ever read, tho he has a very small group of weaker books. dont judge by a movie made on one of his books, cos almost all of them are crap.
His Dark Materials, by Philip Pullman, first book is Northern Lights \ The Golden Compass (and the movie is coming out on dec, btw). very very awesome.
The Ender Series, by Orson Scott Card, first book is Ender's Game.*
The Robots Series and The Foundations Series, By Isaac Asimov.*
The Edge Chronicles, by Paul Stewart and Chris Riddle, first book is Beyond the Deepwoods.**
Artemis Fowl, by Eoin Colfer, first book is Artemis Fowl.**
---
* Sci-Fi.
** these two are for younger kids, actually, so im not sure youll like them.

quaise!? a SK fan?
The Robots Series and The Foundations Series, By Isaac Asimov.*
ok you redemed yourself. however they aren't horror...really should read foundation and empire but i only have it in magyar and my magyar reading is slower.
Artemis Fowl, by Eoin Colfer, first book is Artemis Fowl.**

I take exception to that. I happen to enjoy them all...good series
any whoo. I feel compelled to to promote Robin Hobb's books. Particularly the farseer trillogy. Mediaeval-ish in a dif word but with ppl and magic and politics and assassinations and such things...good read. the forst book is only 440 pages which i think is a record minimum for her.
That ain't no English I ever dun heard!

Superb books, but not really horror
... And I'm not sure I'm pleased they're filming them - although the LOTR adaptation gave us some hope that great books could occasionally be turned into movies with some degree of sensitivity, I've just seen a trailer for the Dark is Rising*, and all my faith in the movies has been destroyed.
MS
*Another incredible book, but again not horror

Re: A new book series!
isnt that the book where ppl have familiars?

Re: A new book series!
am i the ONLY one who has read the inheritance books (eragon and eldest) by christopher paolini (they rock!!!) and the third (empire, i think) cant be that long.
I "may" go as far as to say that it was better than terry pratchett, but gonna wait for no. 3 before i make my judgement. The film sucked , so dont take judgement from it.
on the note of pullman, i didnt like him much, he's not got my style going and the subtle knife is so boring, it just goes on and on...
Eoin Colfer is good, read the supernaturalist!

Re: A new book series!
i read upto about no.5 of the actual "Darren Shan" series but then got snared by TP's brilliance.
Ive just thought of a book everyone should read. "The Divide" by Elizabeth Kay, man is it odd!!! There may be more after it but i havent seen any. Its all parrelell universes and stuff like that, so the Sarge might love it.

Re: A new book series!
oh, i forgot to mention The Upright Man series by Michael Marshall. first book is The Straw Men. pretty sure it qualifies as horror.

Re: A new book series!
the books by anne rice are fantastic, they start with, Interview with the Vampire, (the film was no where near as good as the book, then the vampire Lestat. and so on http://www.annerice.com/bs_VampireChronicles.htm. they are very good books not realy horror but very addictive and there are quite a few of them.
and anne rice has writen another great set of books called the Mayfair wiches http://www.annerice.com/bs_MayfairWitches.htm only 3 in this set but they do appear in some of the vampire one's. im currently re reading the first of this one again.
i would recomed this writer very highly, but must warn you again they are very addictive i am waiting for the newest of the books which comes out in november. i have read all of them several time and still find them captivating and eager to keep reading even though i know what happens next, i have been made to laugh histricaly and cry hoplessly in the space of a few hundred pages.
Happy reading Mrs Cake

Re: A new book series!
Hmm...Looks like I got here too late...I recommend just about everything BD did^^ (though most of them arent horror, and the straw man doesn't have and vamps or demons...still worth it though!). We apparently read the same stuff...
Everything's got an end. A sausage has even got two.
Sausages! Hot sausages! Inna bun! Meat pies! Get them while they're hot!
... Hole food! Hole food! Rat! Rat! Rat-onna-stick! Rat-in-a-bun! Get them while they're dead!
