U2K?

Librarian

Hi all. ive noticed that the latest new guy, named orpheus (which automaticaly gives him 2 points in my book Wink ) is user 1960, or something like that. which means we will soon hit the 2000 users mark. are we doing something special about it? Very Happy

Well I doubt we'll have 2000 active users when user 2000 turns up - cos every user that registers will probably get a unique number, and if they're then banned for spamming or whatever then the number will be left vacant.

(The reason I guess they don't reuse numbers is that if user A registers as number 12, then user B registers as 13, then A is banned, you lose arithmetic progression if you try to re-use 12).

...is the right answer!!! Very Happy Yay for Scrubby! Very Happy

As I just deleted (not banned, but proper Cyberman deletion!) 30 users tonite, and have done many, many times that over the years we're not quite at 2000 yet. Most of those were stupid people who only want their URL to show in our memberlist even though you have to be logged in to see it (and google isn't so it doesn't help them at all!). A very few (one in a hundred?) were people who put in the wrong e-mail address when they registered.

As of tonite we have 1546 active users which is about what we predicted given the growth trends. Probably have 2000 sometime next year. We're still the biggest online Discworld community Very Happy

Thats an ace idea!!!!!

We could have a prize for the person that reffers the 2000th user. I get excited about the refferal link thingy and think we should also have something like top ten users by points but top users by the most refferals. What do you think. In fact, i dont care what you think. I like it. *hints at lee to spend hours on it*

i'm against that. i have just two weeks ago met the fourth german person who reads pTerry. 2 of those 4 are my brother and my mother, one doesn't have internet and for the last one... i might try to get him on thud, but i'd have to write the link down for him and who, tell me, is willing to type in a link like the referral link when you can just type www.thudgame.com? what i'm trying to say is that would be mean for those people who just don't know people who would like the site. in my opinion the referral link is for getting some friends or even family on the site and getting a bit of a bonus for it (how much is it, btw?) and not for mass advertising just to benefit from it and then even ranking by it. but that's just my opinion.

thank you, as if i hadn't thought about that. but i don't know that fourth person's email or msn (if he has it - few germans do) or whatever and i'm not going to ask for it just because of a link.

Re: U2K?

Druid

Ok an interesting idea about the top 10 people who have invited people to the site, but there is some problems, first ok everyone would send it to everyone they knew and just say "click on this link and make an account so i get loads of points" meaning we have loads of people who arn't interested in the site just to make there friends get more points, i think its a good idea that you get points if you refer someone to the site but you just give it to people who you think will actually like the site and if there was the top 10 users who have invited more people its just like a competition and they would invite everyone.

Also i think ratty said something like its easier just to say something like "you should go to www.thudgame.com" insted of writing out the referal link, i agree with this but i don't think that they should get rid of the idea that when they refer someone you get points.

Thats my thoughts on it.

Re: U2K?

check the members list in order of registration and then look at the most recent member (i have a link box pop up but some don;t) so go to that user's profile and it's in the form of thudgame.com/user/xyz and that number tells you which one they are
