"Access Denied" on thud homepage

it happens ocasioanlly don't worry too much

well maybe not the access denied part..It's prob the server's fault not thudgame's

I've never seen it on the homepage. I sometimes get that if I try to go to, say, my user page when I'm not logged in, or to the login page when I am logged in... But if it's a semi-regular problem, then even if it doesn't stop the site being usable it needs sorting out - something like that would definately put me off if I was a regular user. So can either of you give any ideas about anything unusual you'd done when that happened? Or is it completely random as far as you can tell?

If it's the same page i've seen, its definately specific to this site, rather than the server. Worrying...

I think it was a random thing, but i didnt get on thud for a while. What have i missed over the whole weekend? i have heard a lot of things from HOG, Scar and hex. something about dewi going nuts at terminator.

No Dewi was quite cool and calm about it. I e-mailed BSA with a very pointed e-mail ("Do A,B and C or you'll be banned; you have a week") but even that was deliberately and calmly done. I think you'll find your mate BSA was the one writing threatening e-mails effing and blinding at the admins (never a smart move).

As for the access, we've blocked several IP ranges BSA was using. We'll keep these in place for the moment so if he was using your Internet access at your house, or one you both use elsewhere this may be affecting it. Collateral damage mate - sorry. We'll lift it eventually.

y are bsa and iaa (henceforth Mr squiggly) related and I wasn't told? that's vey brute force of you lee but surely it could be circumvented by bsa (I alas am limited to dad's C class network...I think I am still...so I have but ~250ISPs to chose from if I need to change [sad]) and yet iaa is collatreral? surely continued loyalty to our users is more important thatn erradicating the evil-doers?

ah, you see, i think i get it now. Iaa is NOT related to BSA however, iaa made his account using the school web, and BSA made his at home, they may have used the same computer at some point but otheerwise live a few miles apart.

g) while I am sure it's a loss to us all that the metaphorical sight of me is enough to stop you reading blogs, I fail to understand how I am meant without prescience to know that you would be detered and spend months seething and hence to prepare an apology for a member I did not know was offended...or even existed.

that being said, I am apollogetic for any offence I have caused and, in future might I suggest you send me or a druid/admin a PM so that we can sort out our altercations in a timely, quiet, civil and fair manner.

ok but just reading that part your basically saying that you stopped reading the forums a long time ago, but then afterwards you realised it was because of Lettuce? doesn't make much sence, unless you just wrote it wrong..but still.

Ok my thought on the subject, yes lettuce posts a lot and i think you should cut down a bit lettuce however some of the things you write has value to the site and you have some good views, i think Dree you should have been more friendly about this, maybe a PM to lettuce or maybe without all the ! and agressive way of writing, to be more grown up about the issue. I think this is fair but if you have any issues feel free to PM me or post back here.

that would be me, then. well, i didn't pm them, but i started the whole "beware of". usually this goes with "we are pretty mad, but actually quite nice". the beware of list is just a taster to what's going on on a good night in the chat. if you can't stand a bit of madness and randomness you're wrong on a discworld site, especially this one. discworld is random, discworld is mad, discworld is funny, crazy and i daresay that in general so are we.

sergeant lettuce isn't perfect, he's been in trouble because of his posts, he can be really annoying and he's written things that might be hurtful to other people. Diplomacy and tactfulness (can't remember the noun there) are not exactly his strengths, but he's not a bad guy.
I agree with angua, if you have a problem with the sarge then it should be talked about and solved but not like this.

well spoken angua and ratty! the opinions you stated are one of the reasons i like being on thudgame. i think it is very important to respect one another and to show this respect even if one is having a different opinion.

Dee, no one, even the lettuce, could have meant you ill on this site. I know most of em and they are all pretty cool guys (and gals) who lov ediscworld and the game. Also, sgt l Ussualy uses a tag (sgt L., sl etc.) on his topics title.

On the contrary, I've closed this thread pending looking into the whole issue. I've received quite long e-mails from several people last night and was up quite late into the night reading and checking facts.
