Re: Lordi
can hear a couple of main influences, especially from a band in the chorus, can't remember it's name,it'll come to me sometime though.can hear a bit o' the old metallica though,is alright, unfortunately i don't find his voice very satisfying,he kinda sings outta his throat almost [sorry, just saying what i think].but isn't too bad,i'm just wondering why they're all dressed up like that,is it the fashion these days?

Re: Lordi
I have mixed feelings with Lordi.
Ofcourse they have infinit Coolness, because they won the Euro Songfestival as a (hard) rockband. But they are still a EuroSong band; over the top costumes, simplistic music, terrible background act. etc etc.
@Sgt L: I love that Brian Posehn viseo! He's "hitting the nail on the head", as we use to sy here in Holland.

Re: Lordi
nice point...a bit scary at the beginning but a good point. but see from the perspective of the outsiders, they are metal. (from the perspective of the outsider you and I are the same, even though you're mainly black/death metal and I'm more into normal metal). and there are things labeled as metal that are even worse than lordi...at least they aren't rap-core.
That ain't no English I ever dun heard!
Re: Lordi
Yea, I should perhaps hate the media for it's misintrepretation(did I spell that right?), but Lordi is underlining the view of media on this matter. Rap-core as metal... phew...
Really, I'm OK with commerciality in music as long as it isn't the point of making the music. One of my favourite bands, Dimmu Borgir, has been accused in the black metal scene of being too commercial, mainly because their music videos air on MTV. In my opinion, the interviews and comments of the band's mainman, Silenoz, clearly imply that he makes music so his opinions could be heard by a lot of people.
The Lordi phenomenon could be explained by how the public opinion sees metalheads in Finland. They are THE men, drinking lots and eating sausages(couldn't help but laugh on this matter because unlike most generalizations, this one is actually quite correct), not caring what other people think of them and other such manly things. The latter is also how the public opinion sees finnish men compared to the rest of the world. Therefore, in the eyes of the public, if you are metalhead, you are a representation of the finnish man. The public opinion supports this pop-metal because metal is seen as a finnish and a good thing and this pop-metal is the most acceptable form of metal music, as it does not really have any form of opinion or higher meaning in it.
The guitarist of lordi did church charity work before getting famous. How far from the "true" metal scene is that?

which public? the finifh men see themselves as "not caring what other people think of them and other such manly things."?

Re: Lordi
The common opinion, the how most finnish men think of the typical finnish man. No they don't, but in their minds they are more like that than other nation's people, nevermind the reality. Not caring what other people think of them is really something most people just imagine they do, but in a particularly strong mind and will it could be reality. I don't claim to have one of these minds, but I'm trying to get one, even if it means abandoning the "human" way of thinking.

P.S. Good Nietzsche joke, but he had a great yet slightly paranoid mind. I thought the antisemitic writings were irony first time I read about those.
