G'day ![]()
New to your site, first post actually. Here's my problem, I'd like to play but I don't have the right Java thigy to play.
I click on the Play Thud selection and it says I have to download something but the amount of things to dowload, Ive tried picking the most obvious stuff and it's just not working.
In short:
What EXACTLY do I need to download? Long Speak please
It's 1.30 AM in OZ and I'm a bit run down. If this has been covered somewhere else I'm sorry for posting again, but then again, it IS er...1.31 AM...

I guess you're running windows, and, as I'm not, my instructions may not be quite as precise as they could be. However, the place to start is the java website, where there are a couple of options, depending on whether you want to download the whole thing as a single file, then install offline, or go for a small installer program which then downloads other components as and when it needs them. There are fairly good instructions for either version, but do please come back and holler if they dont work.
Hope this helps

Online Thud is written in Java 1.1 to be compatible with virtually any Java virtual machine (i.e. an installation of Java on your computer). Almost all versions of Java released since 2000 should work fine. Windows ME or 2000 with IE5, 5.5 or 6 should have it already installed.
Windows XP didn't come with Java so it has to be installed separately from the link Mr Scrub referenced above. This is (or should be) as simple as downloading it and double-clicking to install although I recall Dewi having a bit of a fight with it.
Many Linuces come with JRE1.2 installed and upgrading to 1.5 is relatively easy. The key is to have the links put in place correctly so your system uses the right runtime environment. Check here for a rundown of how to do this.
I only know one person who uses a Mac thus i can't really comment usefully on them. Perhaps someone else could pitch in here?
Ahh, better, I believe I might play a game now...if I can be online when there is an oponent
Is anyone working on a computer AI version of this and if not, why not?
*EDIT*
I take it back, it's decide it would rather pack it in

The reason I'm not is because I'm no programmer, (I've written basic calculator type programs but no more in C & Pascal). I suspect that neither Lee nor Dewi (the guys who've written this online version) are working on one either, becuase I imagine their priority right now is improving the client. I can't speak for anyone else: indeed it's quite possible that there is an AI being produced that I don't know about.

Seems unlikely that if it works once it would be your configuration causing trouble now... Perhaps there was a temporary server blip: it's certainly working for me now
