Me, Ponder, SANEAlex, Lee and Dewi had great fun over the weekend. We've earned badges, played plenty of thud, made new friends, imbibed copious quantities of ethanol, and engaged in jolly japery in sunny Somerset.
Maybe next time we'll be able to drag a few more of you down to join us - at the mo it's not certain that there'll be another Jamboree, we'll have to wait and see (if it does happen it'll be 09, I think), but you can all come down to wincanton for Hogswatch
.
As lee has said elsewhere, we've got lots of pics to show you - but mine'll have to wait til I've got the cable for my dad's camera....
Mr Scrub, who's gonna see how long he can keep his Jamboree wristband on

Re: Returning heroes of the Jamboree
It's more than paper - a slightly less butch version of the standard plastic-ish festival wristbands... And to give you an idea of my past form, I kept my wristband from last year's greenbelt from the end of august til the end of may.
My guess is that this one will manage at lest 4 or 5 months, all being well.

Re: Returning heroes of the Jamboree
yeah,i see that.
why isn't there a DW convention in africa?is europe the only place where people can appreciate things.i mean, seriously now, just because everyone has a preconcieved view of africa and its people doesn't mean things aren't different here.i mean come on,there aren't elephants and giraffes taking kids to school,no monkeys stealing your wallets [i have another name for those bastards] or lions terrorising innocent people.
come on people, africa is cool,we've got sun most of the time, beautiful beaches, some of the best wine in the world, amazing beauty everywhere you look, and some great beer too.not to mention some of the best humour and friendliest people [at least the ones who aren't afterv something, which is most of us]

and israel isnt the war zone you see on tv. nor is it full of old guys with black clothes and long beards. we got beautiful views, alot of green up north, Tel Aviv, which is one of the world's coolest cities, the dead sea, nice people (well, nice to tourists anyway
) and women as hot as the weather here in summer.

Bah! in Afrika, you have rascism, war, blood diamonds, u cut down immense amounts of trees and kill animals not to meantion the poaching issue. SA is further ahead but some countries are prety well...3rd world. millions starving, unsanitary conditions...don;t u ppl get the ads about all that on tv? not to mention miles and miles of desert

[sigh] ur women are probably religious and conservative...maybe not by Isral standards but by mine...besides i don;t go for jewish chick much...even other jews admit their strength is not in their looks (i'll send u the url if u want) u abuse arabs, DO start wars and kill many of ur neighbours, have nukes, and heaps of desert and im sure u have the death penalty still plus only one day off per week AND ur hated by ur neighbours
Now Australia on the other hand.....
here they have KOALAS PPL! and u ever wanted to ride in a kangaroo's pouch? well now u can! all ur dreams can come true here! and the chciks aren;t that good naturally true but some are HOT and europe exports babes to OZ...and did i mention the best thing of all about australia...it's only like 4hrs form New Zealand! plus WEED! oo and life is SOOOOO layed back here it's like amazing! and there's not much rascism cos there's just too many ppl...especially the bloody asians. oo and there's emus and WOMBATS the ctes animals on the planet and there's hot and cold here whatever u like!

how many times do i have to tell you? only 15% of the popu. here is religious. and the israeli man may be bald and ugly, but the israeli woman is not (this is a generalization, of course. for both sexes). we dont have the death penalty (what do you think we are, Texas?), and the israeli-arabic thing is too koom valley-ish, and were definetely not doing a good job in that issue, so please lets not talk about politics.
on the other hand, you guys have waaaaaay to much bloody animals and rabbits and huge toxic frogs and stuff, and, um, well thats the best i can come up with

but your laws are conservative, here there is till a chance for gays to get married...not a good one but a chance. even in tel aviv strip tease bars are banned.
and they're toads not rfangs and they're kept in QLD mainly, and rabbits well they make good food if u can shoot one not that i ever have but i hear they make good eating...and it's cheap

Re: Returning heroes of the Jamboree
So you want to talk about politics?
Mr Schäuble, Minister for Inner Affairs in Germany (I hope that's the right English term) just tries to put Orwell's fiction into being. I just have seen stickers labelled "Stasi 2.0, Schäuble is watching you".
And we're going to have Olympic Games in China next year. And there is still death penalty in the USA.
This world is not in the order that it should be in. But while also seeing the bad things in the people (which is important, I think) you also have to see - at the same time - the good aspects. This world will never be saved by ideology, whatever kind of -ology you talk of.
Do you read PTerry's books just for your own fun? Don't you understand what message lies under his words? (With "you" I mean all of you)
Whatever right you have to critisize other people, do that in a matter so that thos critisized still can defend themselves without causing a flame war and without insulting anybody.
"... understanding consists of reducing one type of reality to another." - Claude Levi-Strauss
Re: Returning heroes of the Jamboree
For my part elerias, I wans't criticizing ppl...mostly. I was targeting the repsective governments.
nochdazu, we are all friends here and while i know that others do not share my political opinions (here and in the world i live in) I very rarely let that affact my relations with them. Even if anyone said something stupid, andin retrospect I admit some of mine may have looked pretty bad [nods at lee], in my experience very rarely if ever does anyone insilt anyone lese here and if they do they the injured party is capable of expressing that and resolving the problem before a "flame war" erupts
and yes...i think we all know the message behind Pterry's books
That ain't no English I ever dun heard!
Re: Returning heroes of the Jamboree
[sigh] that being said, to placate lee and anyone else who shares his interpretation; my comments were all ironic and while they do contain facts they do not in any way, shape or form represent my opinions regarding the relevant countries or their constituent peoples, in the (i hope unlikely) event that my comments were misunderstood (and it wouldn't be the frst time) I appologise to any and all indiscriminately for any and all offences or confusion caused and would like to reiterate that I have no racial slurs or bigotries and detest those who do.
@Lee, for future ref. possibly a PM or less vehement warning would be nice?

actually i think it's internal affairs...that's what the cops use anyway...hey, u wanna start? i think i could find a small speech worth of stuff on merkel and her lot [growls]
i never said we were doing better
and u think u got it bad? here the cops are allowed to come in take ur stuff and leave without ever telling u and they don;t need a court order for it. Stasi got nothin' on this guy [howard] who is btw slowly allowing torture
