Actually there were three meetings before a decision was made

But yes, the top 10 users by points page has been retired. The reason is we felt it was becoming (had become) an end in itself rather than a means to an end in that, at the end of the day, userpoints are currency on the site and none of us has a page stating how much money we have in our pocket/bank account/pillow/offshore tax haven at any given time so it's a bit silly to display how much site-cash everyone has.

Furthermore, as we've said before there's no reason to hoard points and lots of cool stuff to get if you spend them.

We will be introducing at least one social status measure as soon as we can but this will be league standings based upon how well/often folk play Thud. Userpoints should be spent not hoarded. We'll give you the stuff to spend them on but you get bugger all for hoarding them. Promise! There will be no prizes for having the most and we actively discourage competition based on userpoints. After all no one's posted yet about how much they earned at their job last week; why do it with userpoints?

Now what we would really like is some feedback on how to do league standings. What would be a fair way to calculate one's standing in the Thud league?

P.S. just because there is no reason to haord don;t mean there IS reason not to hoard..especially cos many of the thuds on offer cannot yet be purchase...maybe if the top 5 put their points tiogether they could collectively buy a thudset....sounds like some ppl should hoard some more...

also, i assume you have a solution to the issue that the top ten lists, in the first page lists most prominent users on the site, so whenever i needed to PM somone, or look up their details...I'd go there cos that's where the members list was

this is a point. personally i sometimes use the search function, but mostly i go over the top10 list. so, yeah, a new member list would be good. doesn't have to be with points. but maybe something saying how many users there are?

what the hell is wrong with u people, if someone suggests that a facet of the site is good, thestandard responce is "yay, when we delete it we should set up another thing that does exactly the same thig"

the most logical thing to do is to leave thigs that work UNTOUCHED! see for instance the fact that everytime the site is upgraded, amny things that worked now look "better" but do not do the one thing they were intended to.

and we odn;t need to know how many users there are (1500-1600, check peoples' user numbers) cos the thud listings does it any way, there's 30 ppl per page, go to the last page, multiply the number of full pages by 30 and add the last page. and even if we run into ppl that can';t multiply, it is still easier to add a little user counter facet ONTO THE USERPOINTS PAGE than to tear it down and redo the whole thing.

We will soon be retiring the top 10 userlist by points (to an admin only area... Sorry sarge but we did say...) and replacing it with a userlist for the whole site sortable by various criteria including (when we have it ready) league standings but not including userpoints. These will stay (possibly) visible on peoples' profiles pages so anyone with the urge can compare theirs with others they're aware of.

But yes, the searchable, sortable userlist is coming soon; but first whatcha wanna see on it? Tell us what you want and we shall try to deliver that for you

the "date last seen" is a good idea.... maybe number of comments? no, thats just stupid. ooooh, i know, maybe we will putnext to users who werent around for a long time, say, 2 months, the writing: "missing, presumed quit" or "sick and tired of us"

besides, in case you genii haven;t yet figured it out, the points are a VERY good way of assuming a users level of participation THAT'S THE WHOLE F***ING POINT! [sigh, shakes head] if you wanna know anything about a user, you see how long they've been on and how many points they have...that's the best way...the only alternative to thins is to make some sort of points list abortion and call it soething american like a participation'o'meter which is the same thing but a waste of your time and my patience....THINK PPL.

could there be something like 'games played' sorted in tradthud,kvt, klash, quickfire to see how active a player is.
i don't think games won/lost is that important, but a general number.

i think there should be a number for frequence of games played (avg/day) and one to tell us how many u win/lose so ppl know how good u is...or maybe a ranking form the previous tournament

*sigh* first, there is no need to shout it doesnt make any difference in text at first i didnt think the top 10 points should have gone because i used it to find people by using that page, but now it has been suggested that there will be a place where you can find people like a table thing, which will solve the problem of finding people, also i could name several people who have very little points but are regualar users on thud, and thirdly they are just points!! why do you need to know what everyone has got?! like Lee said you dont go around saying how much money you get a month or whatever, so there i have thought and that is what i have come up with

most true. just as an example, masterthief conina. she is practically never in the forums and so has only few thudpoints. but she's on live thud several times a week, more often than many people with more thudpoints. the thudpoints only tell you how active a user is in the forum. or was, a year ago, in some cases.
