If Lee was on about discussing getting rid of old topics, (sorry its still too early and the coffee with 4 sugars isnt kicking in yet ) anyway, i think we should keep old topics, i like looking back over them, plus i dont really see why we would need to get rid of them?

I am a scientist guy so obviously i find the erasion of information....unforgivable

if i got it right, then lee doesn't want to delete the old posts but archive them, so they won't be in the way.

i talked him out of it, for exactely the same reasons you said. the old topics remain.

bottom of homepage... do you mean the tag cloud? if yes, that's there so that the users can make use of the hours and hours of hard work that greatly increase my intake of tea. ie find posts via their tags.

Yes, it's our newest site addition. to keep up with the Web2.0 bandwagon we've added a tag cloud to the homepage so now we're all AJAX-y, funky-new-wave Web2 blogospherically hive-mind compliant... or something...

I think that's a Firefox2 feature, not something we've installed here on the site. We were gonna but firefox did it first so we're happy for folk to use FF as they're spell checker

Just noticed people's avatars and other details are appearing next to comments on photos & blogs now - thanks guys

One thing that this did make me realise, tho, was that there's currently no way of telling which photos have been commented on recently. I don't know whether they should neccessarily be added to the "Active forum topics" list - perhaps they should, but equally it can get pretty full already. I'd like to see what people think about that. But what I think would certainly be worthwhile would be putting a little line underneath the photo title in this view, so you'd have something like this: (links dont go anywhere).

It's being worked on. Or maybe I should say, It will be worked on soon and is on the list." Dewi is doing some heavy work on the online game at the moment trying to eliminate some persistent bugs and make it much more stable than it is now (and introduce the leagues! )

oh, yeah, forgot to say, i have a suggestion: when you click on the "play thud online" you get to the "various ways to play thud" page. now, wouldnt it be better to make the link go to the live thud page directly, and creat another link for the "various ways" page? i mean, when i click on the link i want to get to the live page, and the other one is just an unneccesary stop.

basically saying that put a special link on the normal main page for the actual online section,then also put the getgame on that as well,cos if you're online and people are playing a game then you want to see what they're doing then the link's right there.also put the getgame option on the varius ways to play thud page as well.

Update: the image galleries have been given a bit of luvvin' and look a bit better. Next Dewi and I will recover the Wadfest images from their slow exile

Site's looking much better guys! I like the little icons. Page loads seem slow though - I thought you had a way to speed them up? Or maybe it's just me...

Whilst we're on the subject of image galleries, a couple of things I'd like to put into the mix.

One is stylistic: when I view images of more than a certain width they as it were underlap the right-hand navigation. That is, the images are too wide to fit in the central content column, so they spill out to the right and the navigation appears over the top. (This is on a 1024x768 display - I guess it'd be worse on 800x600). This one might be quite a quick fix - maybe a maxwidth statement in the css, adapted with javascript depending on the browser's resolution?

Second point is one I've made before - in the image gallery view, each photo should have details of the total number of comments and number of new comments. This I guess is a longer job - possibly even involving creating a chunk of drupal module. If that's the case, since image galleries are a fairly non-core part of the site, I guess that can be ignored.

Third point is about naming of images - I discovered after I uploaded the jamboree photos that the files had the same name on the server as I'd given them, and that worried me slightly, since it suggests that if I uploaded a different image with the same name it would overwrite the original image. I suspect that's probably not the case, but I thought it was probably worth mentioning, just in case.

And finally, if you upload a large image (say foo.jpg), a smaller version is created (foo.preview.jpg). foo.jpg doesn't seem to be used anywhere on the site - even the link on the image page is to foo.preview.jpg, but foo.jpg is still kept. Is that in case you decide to use it later, or because it's used somewhere else that I've missed, or just cos it's too much effort to delete the larger version?
