how do i get to the live thud part...and what is YIM?

just click on the "play thud online" link on the "places to see" menu, and then "play online thud in real time". you'll need java to make it work.

You don't need it (at least, I'm doing OK without it
). All you should need to play the game is a web browser and Java.
