Hi,
How come all I get is the chat window? I can login as guest, challenge myself logged in on another browser (which gives me the strange message that I am already playing that user), but I don't get anything else... I would like some kind of octagonal board to play on... ![]()
[update]
I finally got the board, but only on 2005f, not on 2005g or 2005h versions in either IE or Mozilla...
Ciao, Marc.

Right now you will often get the message that, say,
guest1007 is already playing guest1009
because none of the early games could be ended properly (although resignation is now sometimes(?) working).
This means that if someone else was logged in as 1007 a few weeks back, had a game against 1009, then didnt close it, the server thinks the game is still in progress.
Changing your username to guestXXXX (where X is any number) should sort it out, and I suspect that's why it worked in one version and not another: when you logged out and logged in again in a new version the username would have changed automatically.
Edit: after changing your username you will need to hit "login" for the change to take effect (you dont need to worry about the password section at this stage).

although resignation is now sometimes(?) working.
From your comments while we were playing, I think it works like this:
1. player 1 resigns
2. player 2 gets a popup asking if this is OK
(2a. player 2 says, 'hey, it didn't do that yesterday when I resigned!', and clicks OK)
3. player 1 sits and waits, because it 'doesn't do that today, when he resigns'
Ahhh - that looks like explaining a lot. It's just that I've never had the experience of anyone resigning against me before
(Though for public knowledge I should point out that OB didn't resign because I'd reached a winning position, but because he had and got to the resign button first)

Sorry about that. It isn't so much a bug as a feature (really!
)
We've built in a few things that try to prevent people playing themselves, even with different identities. It's still possible for the determined but will require a bit of faff to overcome. Anyway, we will try to hang out more often so that you can play against other humans, albeit, speaking for myself, I'm sure OB, Mr Scrub and others (does Becky log on anymore?) will give you a better run than I
The reason for not trusting the game-client is several fold but not least that league standings will be an important part of the game (and not one that we will want to see "gamed" lightly) and experience points will be awarded for play, for game draws and for game wins. To prevent people setting up bots that play themselves and cream off loads of points for the controller we've tried to make this difficult.
The good news is that the new client is up and running but running on the gameserv2 daemon which is what Mr Scrub and OB saw the other night
so it appears they will be in the shops from today or tomorrow.
This client will incorporate not only quite a few fixes for issues pointed out by THE Thudmeister himself, but also by your good selves here on the forum. Dewi has identified several important bugs he's working on right now and we would like to launch this as a proper beta release sometime this week. We had hoped to beat the game-in-the-shop to release but I collected a gaming edition set from Bernard in Wincanton yesterday
Stay tuned to the forum as, in edition to the online game release, we hope to announce some other surprising and very good Thud news soon!
Best regards to all!

I can imagine that you would do that, but for testing purposes, couldn't you turn that off?

Sadly it's hard coded into the server and would require re-writing quite a bit to do so.
On the good side we've released a new client which one can see here including new, and un-encumbered graphics, improved game-playing features, and re-sized pieces. There are known issues, namely we still have to play as guests but these will be resolved soon. check out the announcement in the Announcements section
