The Thudgame Admins are very pleased to announce that we are hereby launching the very first Discworld clacks service for the Roundworld in partnership with the Grand Trunk Company conjoined with the Ankh-Morpork Post Office Consular Services, Wincanton! One is now able to send proper clacks's to anyone on the Roundworld!
For the moment, the honoured recipient must have a Roundworld clacks address, known in the vernacular as e-mail. In the next few days we hope to announce the sending of a postal clacks's complete with an Ankh-Morpork Postal Service Grand Trunk stamp for a reasonable price to anyone, anywhere on the Roundworld who can be located by postal service (horses, llamas, ponies, pigeons, etc, might be used, but cannot be specially provisioned for delivery, and aren't, strictly speaking, necessary. Well, not most places...) complete with franked envelope by Ms Maccalariat's own staff in the event she is unavailable to do so herself.
Clacks tokens can be purchased here, for the price of £1 or 100 Thudpoints per token, and once one has tokens in hand, a clacks can be sent from this page.

Because this is the only place on the Roundworld where one can send someone else an official, Ankh-Morpork Postal Service Grand Trunk Clacks message - an actual Discworld item brought to life. They make great, and very elegant, electronic birthday greetings, announcements, letters and messages of all types and with an actual Discworld motif.
Soon (I would say "this week" but I know how our last deadline slipped...) we will be offering hard copy Clacks's on official Grand Trunk letterhead stationery in two forms that will be VERY collectible. These will be the typewritten form and the linen paper on parchment General Post Office turn-of-the-century form that will be a limited edition run. Both of these will include an A-MPO/Wincanton Consulate stamp and the linen on parchment clacks's will have a limited run stamp on theirs. These will be posted to any address on the Roundworld for the same price anywhere.
...and why does it cost money?
A couple of reasons, the first being that we have to pay a royalty to the Thud principals just to be able to host this site. We want to make raising revenue on the site as painless as possible but it does have to make money. There are no two ways about that.
In addition, we looked at pricing Clacks's closer to the marginal unit cost but because of transaction fees and similar overheads we've made them as inexpensive as possible whilst still covering the variable costs and still providing a unique, quality service that we believe is well worth the expense. We will be introducing pricing bundles as soon as we can (i.e. 5 for the price of 4, 10 for £7 or so, etc.) to let you get more bang for the bucks but for the moment lotsa people have Thudpoints with nothing else to spend them on (OK, you can buy a membership in the Guild but you can only do that once a year).
Also creating, maintaining, administering, upgrading and managing the site takes a significant amount of time and resources and we have to be remunerated for this. Together with other projects, it's our day job and we have to put food on the table.
We're very interested in feedback and critiques aimed at making Clacks's and other product (and even new products we haven't thought of yet) better. Please do feel free to post here (so to speak!
