SSSSHHHHH!!! Act natural, I think he's back!

Druid

Hi Y'all,

Yeah I'm alive. Barely... Wink

Hey, did you hear about this new invention? It's called a table, and it's basically a horizontal slab of xxxxx on four vertical pieces of yyyyy. It's amazing, you can put lots of stuff on it, and use it to dine on chairs (things to sit on, another great invention)! We have some in our dining room, and it's luxury beyond belief! Laughing

Things are finally getting back to normal over here. I know, it's been a while, and for those who've missed it: we've been remodeling our kitchen (along with downstairs bathroom and several ante's; all of downstairs but the living room actually, which we used to store all the stuff we had to move). A few days ago we started painting, the finishing touch as it were. Finally something I do like, painting. Rewarding work, with quick results.

But anyway, I've been away for eighteen weeks now, six more than planned, so I've got a lot of catching up to do. I've been lurching anonymously, off and on, and did a few posts here and there, but still. Here's my timeline, starting about a week or two from now.

Most important is upgrading my laptop to Suse Linux 10.2 so Python (and ThudBoard) will work again. Will take most of a day off, with backupping before and tweaking afterwards. After that:

1. First, I'm going to try to clean up the Forum Thud! section. I was behind even when I had to get to work at home, so there's a lot of catching up to do there. Lots of [finishing] and [unfinishing] to do.
2. Whilst doing that, I'm bound to stumble on a few eighteen weeks old games featuring yours truly. Ouch. Can't get them all back into the first page at once, so I'm going to start the oldest one (the one with Ponder if memory serves me right) first. Others will follow in due time, promised. I will remember to PM you.
3. Next, it's time to update the site. There are a couple of games in my inbox --thanks Elerias, SANEAlex, Magrat, FlorisXIV, and I'm sure I'm forgetting some-- and step one will bring up more I guess.
4. Once that is done, it's finally time to bring home a promise I made aeons ago, The Easter Egg Hunt. People who found it will get notice around step one, so I can get their User Pages up by the time step three is done.

Somewhere in between, I'm bound to stumble on a strange link in thudgame.com, called "Play Live Thud". What's that then? You can play live thud? Seriously?! Cool!! Wink
Expect me in a week or two, and don't say I didn't warn you.

That's it for now, time to get back to painting. Looking forward to meeting Y'all again, live or on forum.

Happy Thudding!

Let us know how that goes - the first Suse I tried was 10.1, and it was really quite disappointing. That and not having time to work out whether the Microsoft/Novell deal is all above board or not meant I went straight back to Mandriva...

Re: SSSSHHHHH!!! Act natural, I think he's back!

hey!!welcome back OB,looking forward to seeing you on live,if not to play then to chat [i find myself speaking more than anything else]

i find i enjoy doing things like painting and building as well, gives you a nice sense of accomplishment when you get a big project done.one word of advice to anyone out there...do NOT try to rearrange a bathroom [toilets, baths, showers etc],is lots of work and involves you doing a lot of chiselling and breaking-through-the-floor type of things,as well as finishings... I must say, we had been considering doing our kitchen, and after OB's experience I am definitely rethinking. I mean, not being able to play Thud for eighteen weeks!
Now, really...

Hi Y'all,

Thank you all for your nice words, I promise it won't be weeks now before I will be able to get back. Just one more, maybe hopefully gods willing &tc.

@Mr Scrub: (Suse) I will as soon as I get to it, promise. Ask Lee btw, he got a copy from me and installed it.

@Magrat: it's all about what you decide to do. I decided that coming in in a hurry, do a couple of hurried posts/moves, and not being able to tell when to do the next session was not my style. Better cut it down entirely than halfheartedly. I did do a couple of posts, and lurked most of the time, but my decision helped me concentrate on things more pressing. Don't let my decision stop you from redoing your kitchen, in the end* it will prove to be worth it.

@Lee: yeah well, every person I talk(ed) to who has been through it says the same; not even one that said "oh yes, we picked one, customized it, had it delivered and installed and it's great!"
Which led me to the following brainstorm slash theory slash crash course:

HOW TO BECOME A KITCHEN DESIGNER AND INSTALLER:
First study to become a dentist. Learn about anxiety, fear, sweat, belly aches, anticipation and pain. Learn to ignore it with all your heart.
Next get a piece of paper and a pencil, a couple of Polish handimen, and some willing victims. Lull the victims with nice drawings, talk double dutch to your Polish handimen and let them be the scapegoats when things go double wrong (we didn't fall for that one! those were really nice folks, hardworking and dedicated! Zenek mate, you did a great job!).
And finally take all the credit when the victims still think that in the end it was all worth the suffering and trouble.

@Magrat, Lee & everyone else: mind if I do an illustrated story first, at my User Page at OB dot com? Get things off my chest, as it were. I'll try to do it very soon, let you know, and get back to business afterwards. Lots of cheers in the end, I promise, because (bugger!) it WAS worth the suffering and trouble!

One more thing though: I WAS in the live thud client occasionally the last few days at hours I used to frequent before, but noone seemed to be around. Have hours changed?

*in the end, in the very end, after very very much suffering (see above)

Happy Thudding!

Re: SSSSHHHHH!!! Act natural, I think he's back!

i think it's just a lack of time that's caused every1 to be on randomly.i don't get online the times i used to,but will be on in the evenings after 10pm,9pm UK time in a week.

and you'll never fully appreciate something like a re-done kitchen if you don't put in the hours yourself,so congrats, now you've got a warm fuzzy feeling inside,it's called pride

Started, I've done five months worth in four days already, nov 06 through mar 07. I've bumped up a few games likely to resume in the process. I keep track of the theads locally, I will put all of them in one post in "Messages from moderator" once I'm done.

2007 Easter Egg Hunt winners and ThudMeister 2007 Mr Scrub have been notified. I can't really urge them can I? Laughing . In due time, in due time.

Still haven't had any of significance (days off that is), but this is now on top of my TODO list. But since my "current games" saves are on my laptop, I will need to do this before I can get back to playing. Getting there, slowly but surely.
