Oograh Boike's Unofficial Thud pages

Druid

Hello friends and Thudders,

Please visit Oograh Boike's Unofficial Thud Pages:
edit: Please see my signature end of edit
for the latest savegames, Leather Board skins for ThudBoard, and a scorecard for all players who have been playing in the last six months.
- Savegames: for a lot of games on this forum you can download savegames for the ThudBoard application;
- Skins: if you happen to own a Leather Board, you can download skins to change ThudBoard to look like that;
- Scorecard: all players have been asked if they want to be included in a scorecard, where their scores are ranked against other players' scores. Some do, some don't. If you're interested, this is the best place to find out how to achieve virtual immortality. But beware: most of you will only find mortality...

If you are a new player, AND submitted a score to either the Thud Game Results thread or me, and still haven't been contacted by me, please send me a PM.

Please visit the pages regularly, and remember to mail your savegames!

Happy Thudding!

Latest addition to the pages, with many thanks to BeckyO: Koom Valley Thud rules in a doc with diagrams!
Check it out, it's a fun game!

A new page: downloads. The Koom Valley Thud doc has moved to that one, as well as a couple of special savegames discussed elsewhere in the forum.

Another new page: archive. Since all games played on forums before this one became home to Thud! have perished, I've decided to make a fresh start with games and scores.
The games page, as well as the scorecard, have been updated to games of this forum only. There are only three games so far, but it's a start.
A snapshot of how things used to be (including links to all old savegames) has been moved to the archive.
Visit (edit: Please see my signature end of edit) to see what's been changed.

Cheers,

OB.

Ah, mourn not for the old pages as Dewi mirrored them shortly after this forum began. They live still awaiting his completion of release 1.0 of Online Thud (have I contradicted myself there? Goes to check... Wink ), and will be re-posted as soon as possible into a Forum Thud Archive here.

Regarding Online Thud 1.0, logging in should now work (properly) on the game (forum username/passwords work there-- uh-huh, that's right! Mr Morgan is white-hat hacker par excellence! Very Happy ), most of the annoying bugs have been fixed (we think-- please test (i.e. play! Very Happy ) and let us know if things still annoy) and the Ancient and Honourable Guild of Thudmeisters will launch as soon as we're acceptably stable!

I'll make a game announcement elsewhere later today but just wanted to put a quick note up right now.

Big thanx to OB for the Sterling work on Forum Thud and his Thud pages!! Cool

Hi Y'all,

Another page added: Koom Valley Thud games, as a subsidiary to the regular games dowload page. Just one game, for now, but I have good hopes there'll be more in the near future! Very Happy
No scorecard on this one, let it just be a fun page to find and download games. Oh, maybe just a little bit then: I'll keep track of how many times T or d won Twisted Evil .
The link to my pages is, as always, in my signature.

Happy Thudding!

Just a little note on the scorecard... there's no column saying how many games each player has actually won/lost - you've got number of games played, and the points won/lost, but unless they go to the detailed results page and start counting there's no way to know how each player's doing in actual victories.

Cheers,
'Cat.

Hi MCat,

Thanks for the idea! Very Happy I've changed the page so that it shows "Games (won)". You can do the maths, I guess, on what (lost) will be, right Wink ?
While at it, I've changed your latest game so that it shows Mystery Cat vs Tompko, instead of azathothgr. Stupid copy/paste mistake I hadn't noticed before.

Hi All,

I updated the pages again a couple of times since last post, and made a new page as well: games of interest! There's only two of them at the moment, but if you see, or know of any games, let me know. I will keep looking in my library of games, but any help is appreciated.

Happy Thudding,

Hi all,

Pending some Very Good News in the near future, all work on the site needs to be postponed untill further notice. I can't deliberate anything more yet, but you'll notice Very Happy . Keep your eye on this topic!
Needless to say all savegames are still welcome, and will be included once the site is up and running again.

Yippeeee!!!! Great News, my friends!!

The Gods spoke unto me, and they spoke thus: "Hi, I'm Lee"
And they spoke "Hi, I'm Dewi"
And they spoke "We are going to make thee an offer thou canst and willst not refuse, or thou shallst be smitten."

Yes, yes, yes, YESSSSS!!! The Gods have deemed it fit to offer me www.oograhboike.com , and I've accepted. No more popups, no more ads, and a nice, cool URL to go with it. Please adjust your bookmarks, because the geocities thing has been dismantled.
My signature has been changed to point in the right direction, and all posts in this thread have been edited as well.
Please notify me if you remember about (or see) a post that has the old address in it.

A couple of goodies, so the new place is New! Improved! Better! right away. The scorecard has been updated with three new games that were waiting to be submitted. It's pretty messed up from what you remember, check it out.
And Cian contacted me a couple of days ago, he's finally had time to send me the updated grid-board for the leather skins. The N column starts with 4 now, instead of 3. Download it, and overwrite the older gridboard!

Hi all,

Lee and Dewi are moving servers at the moment, and in the process have made all pages read-only. So I can't update anything, but will do as soon as I can. At least three games pending, two thud, and one KVT.
On the other hand, the whole site seems to 404 on me Crying or Very sad , so if that happens to you as well there's no loss anyway...

Another thing of slight importance: me and the missus will be off to Genua for four weeks again in a couple of days. I hope I'll be able to update the pages before that.
It will leave you without a moderator for the time being (assuming Lee and Dewi are busy with slightly more important things). So behave, or be sure to delete any incriminating posts before I get back Wink .
And please keep sending savegames! They will be included once I'm back. The address for sending savegames has changed as well, click "contact" at the site for correct address. Thanks!

Right. Off to Genua then, for some serious rocking, rolling, rhythming and bluesing. And drinks with banananas Very Happy .

See you soon!

OB.

Hi all,

The move seems to have been completed. Please see Lee's announcement for the how and the why.
I've been able to update, and there's a surprise as well: Alex sent me the skins for his Granite ThudBoard today. Have a look at the LeatherBoard page.

See you in a couple of weeks!

Hi y'all,

It's been a while, over two months because of holidays and TT06, and it took me a couple of hours to do it, but there's an update for the pages.
Two new players, and one of 'em gets to the top right away with a staggering 34 points out of one game! Welcome Vlad042, and you'd better start to watch your back Wink . And a welcome to Nelly the Marrow as well.

There's a little lagniappe[ *] too: Totally Slag made a very nice new skin for ThudBoard. You can see a snapshot, and download a zip of the new /img directory at the leather page.

[*]Lagniappe: in New Orleans that means a little extra, free of charge. Very Happy

Hi y'all,

Thanks to Magrat and Ponder, and SANEAlex and Dwarves are Small respectively, I was able to add a couple of interesting games in the "games of interest" section.
Please have a look, the Magrat vs Ponder (2) is rather unique, since what happened, happened in both halves. If you can't find what or why, feel free to PM me about it. But please don't post about it in forum, that might spoil it for other interested people.

At last, here they are: the saves for The Challenge. Windle Poons came up with an opening for Trolls, and Dearmer took up the challenge to find a counter. All four saves are on the "Interesting Games" page. All of them are a couple of moves only, they were discussing openings after all. But very interesting if you read the threads (links provided on the page) along with the saves.

A fews days ago I uploaded some regular games as well, on the Games page. Dearmer vs Magrat, and Dearmer vs CycloUK. Dearmer managed to climb a few rungs on the ladder, so check out the Scorechart as well.

New updates on games and scores pages. Two new games by yours truly.
Both azathothgr and Mystery Cat have been removed from the scorecard, they have abandoned games and haven't posted for over six months. People who scored in games with either of them will keep their scores, of course.

Re: Oograh Boike's Unofficial Thud pages

Hi Y'all,

A couple of new games have been added, and that made the list a staggering 45 games! Thank you all for sending me all those games.
Since it's text mostly, it doesn't affect loading time, but a long list tends to start spinning before the eyes... At least that's how I felt; a bit of overkill, especially for newbies.
So I've divided the games page into two seperate pages. The first one you will get to by menu is the Most Recent Games one, but in there you will find a link to Older Games as well. It's right on top of the list, you can't miss it.
The oldest 30 games have been moved to another page, the newest fifteen will remain on the first page untill it hits the 45 games mark again. So the most you will have to browse through are either 30 (older) or 45 (newest).

BTW: thank you SANEAlex for helping me think about this!

Hi Y'all,

Two new games, Mazur vs Magrat (1), and SANEAlex vs Palm (Doubles,U), for download.
Mazur and Magrat made it to the interesting games page as well.
SANEAlex and Palm was interesting for another reason: it was a perfect draw... For all the time that I keep track of games on my site, I've only once seen a draw, so that's a bit special on its own account. But this one has two perfect mirrors (18 - 24 and 24 - 18). Amazing, to say the least.
All that does to their scores however, is add zero points to both, and add one to games played for both. So in effect, both their scores went down, because the first is divided by the second. All in favour of another SANEAlex vs Palm game say AYE! [ *]

Hi Y'all,

It has been brought to my attention, and tested by yours truly, that Internet Explorer does not show the drop out menus anymore. Lee and I have had a look at it, but can't seem to pinpoint where the problem is. All we --well, he actually, at my request-- did was change the background colour.
But I've read Lee's "Firefox or bust!" blog, and can only agree wholeheartedly. Go get Firefox, or Opera, or Konqueror.
If not, then there's a new site map, and a new search page. Partly for IE users, but mostly because I was thinking of doing that anyway.

Hi y'all,

Ahum, yes, well......
I'm very sorry it took even longer than I promised earlier elsewhere. I needed a bit of time for myself I guess.

But the huge update is done and uploaded. Have a look and tell me what you think. If you are in the scorecard, I need (and want) you to take a very close look. A lot of games, a lot of scores, a lot of maths. I hope everything is as it should be, but I probably made a (couple of) mistake(s) along the way. Please check!

The score card has been cleaned up. I did not like to do that, a lot of good players are gone. DAS is not in it anymore, nor is Aine. I was not sure about Nelly, I will need to look into that later. Both Palm and I are pushing the limit. But I'm back (PMs to my opponents to pick up where we left have been posted), and so will Palm be I hope.
But we have a couple of new players in the list as well, that's good.
Let's see where it goes from here, and check in a few weeks.

I only scored games that were sent to me during my absence. In the next few weeks I will browse the games forum to see if there are more that need to be scored.

I'm back, and that feels good!

Hi Y'all,

Another interesting page has been added to my site: the Multiplayer Games Page. I like the idea of Multiplayer Games, and you can't do them anywhere else but on Forum. And since my pages are all about Forum, I thought I should add a page about those games.
Please have a look at the format. I thought the idea of using dates for the links was one of my better ones, but if you think it needs a bit of tweaking please let me know.
Anyway, enjoy the Multiplayer Games. I know I will.

Congrats! i have been meaning to ask you but think it should also be discussed by others affected ie those whose games are on your site, so i am posting this here.

I have been working on a version of knoppix, a popular version of linux, that will boot from a USB drive and, if i can get my act together, also run under windows. with the help of MrScrub i now have a version that has Thudboard installed. i intend and when my brian is properly in gear i intend to set it up with a patched firefox with a html page with links to various discworld resources, primarily the thud site and your unofficial pages and marcs, which is ok for when there is a net connection, but if, like i have found when away, they is not one available it would be nice to have copies of old games to study. what does everyone think? are those who have their games up on Oograhs site also happy to have them on a customised linux install and the various skins people have produced.

It may be we can set this up also as a bootable DVD iso. Over the years we have had quite a few people who have had trouble setting up to play the live version and i think a plug and play version that can be used without changing any settings on the host computer may encourage the spread of Thud. as i have had a lot of i cant install things on my dad/school/uni computer when i have suggested various changes to get things to work.

Dewi has said he may be able to set this up as bit torrent.

Very good idea, Alex. I'm happy to donate my games to a great thing like this.

I do have the same problem (especially at work). Although I'd prefer a setup on Stick (rather than DVD) for a Stick can be used for storing stuff as well and if you've got a DVD, I doubt that I will have it with me all the time.
