As Angua and I observed, the world is turning very cold and dark indeed, due to the absence of a special kind of creature. as we all know, furry creatures can be quite good for the mental health (or at least the remnants thereof), and of course the most sophisticated animal in its animalistic state is the frog. alas, there are are no furry frogs whatsoever.
and therein, of course, lies another problem. it is the problem of man burning and axeing down trees, which are like artistic and elegant parts of a ecosystem, and - while doing so - causing considerable dmg. to the microclimate; that any frog that might hop along a well-known path he used for many a frog-year, perhaps even showing it to his grandchildren (if they are old enough to have developed legs, that is), might come, without any warning or possibility of prediction, across an area of burned or axed tress the size of N.Y. City. Maybe if our granddad-frog is very old, he'll get a cardiac arrest, but most frogs - especially tree-frogs - will react to this with depression or addictive behavior. we can not possibly be heartless enough to let that happen... therefore i suggest we start to save the tree-frog, and any other frog on general principles, just in case, and maybe they will start to evolve into a furry race of tree frogs out of gratitude (other frogs cant well do it because of the fur getting wet), and as the millenia go by we can watch those little friends in restoring our mental health with their great eyes and cozy fur, so that future generations don't write posts like the one i am writing now.
the tree-frog needs us. - we need the tree frog....

the world is getting hotter due to global warming.

the world as earth, yes. by studying thermodynamics and cosmology, i am led to believe that this does not at all convince the universe as a whole to act likewise, especially as the entropy tends to increase with time, a statement which every sensible person is forced to admit out of sheer personal inertia....

Re: Save the tree frogs!
First penguins, now frogs? What's next?
[..] and maybe they will start to evolve into a furry race of tree frogs out of gratitude [..]
That just remembers me of quite a sad story I saw on TV when I was a small child. I try to summarize:
Once a frog and a goat fell in love and they had a child. Called a "Zosch" or a "Friege", depending on how you see it. (It's a combination of "Frosch" = frog and "Ziege" = goat)
This poor being couldn't find a school to go to. It couldn't go to the school for wood and paw animals because it had webs (like a frog). And it couldn't go to the school for water animals because it had a fur.
In the end a hunter shot it because of its green fur.
So it might be a good idea to save the frogs while at the same time telling them that growing fur might be deadly.

Re: Save the tree frogs!
*sob* what a sad story...it makes me want to go out there and start up a shelter for all the zoschs and frieges out there that are all alone...
On another note: how the HECK do goats and frogs mate? And who on earth made up a bizarre story like that? Who thinks of a goat and then goes "Hmmm, what would be a good goat pairing? I know, a FROG!" Were they on drugs?
Still, a very sad story.

Re: Save the tree frogs!

Re: Save the tree frogs!
Janosch wrote the story. He's a German artist who wrote and illustrated many books for children. And this was really a story for children. Although it's tragic, I still remember it as quite funny after all these years.
So I can't go into detail about the mating process as I have no idea.
Although this is off-topic: Ever heard of the Tigerduck? Or the tiger and bear stories? I know there are English translations as I read some of them myself, but I don't know if they were only done for the German market.
