Will there be a section for 'playing thud' across the forum?
I'ts how I've always played it. I was a member of the first forum and then it crossed to the cunning artifactors site, each had a section for games.
then again I could just be blind - I could find a section to give hints and tips, to discuss thud but not to play...

Hi Aine,
We've plans to do something better than that-- we will be launching an online version of Thud that all can play for free. We're tidying up the last bit of development on that but we will be making an announcement in the next couple of weeks. The lovely group on forum here will be the first to know and I will send out a forum e-mail as soon as it's live.
You may have noticed some roundabout comments and discussions here and there on the forum alluding to such a game. This is what we've been discussing. If anyone has suggestions, recommendations or "it would be nice if..." wish lists do post those here in the Suggestions section.
Shoutz out to the former thudgame.com forum members-- welcome to the new forum! It's superb to see you and have you here as there's innumerable hours of Thud experience represented with you! Again, welcome from all of us!
Ah, I read some of thoes posts but didn't quite follow them completely...
I did think they refered to Marc's electronic thudboard. but anyway.. it sounds like it will be fun, and I can't wait.
right I'll go and read the rest of the posts before asking questions which have already been asked...
Okay maybe I'll just ask some questions...
The game play you have planed and is undergoing testing.. do you have to start and finish a game in 'one sitting' I've played games in an evening but more commonly its been over a few days/weeks where the players post their next move when they have time in their heatic schedules.
Will there also be a scores / leauge table or somewhere where you can keep track of your game progress. (for thoes who want to be listed)
Will it be possible to record the game play - so that I can review and work out where I've stuffed up?
I take it that the game will work equally well on explorer, netscape and safarie.
Is there any indication as to when it will be avaiable to all?
can't think of anything else at the minute, adn I should be working anyway...
Feel free to ask away!
Your question actually started quite a discussion here at Druid Central as to whether some would like to have a section to play Thud on the forum as before. So.....
Is there a call from the community to play Thud on forum move by move? There seem to be several advantages to playing this way. We call it "Slowfire Thud" (as opposed to, errm , Quickfire Thud
as "Burning Ember Thud" or "Nicely Banked Barbecue Thud" don't really scan
). It allows one:
- the opportunity to think very carefully about each move
- knock up a little applet to parse thru each move possibility on their computer
- demonstrate their Thud prowess to the world (although the online game will feature "playback" mode)
- to play even with certain profound disabilities, although we are working on an accessibility version of the online game as well
I'm sure there are lots of other cool reasons and everyone do feel free to add to the list, but would some like to have a section for forum gaming as before? Do post here or mail me offline and we will respond if the community want it.
Cheers!
As you can guess, I'd like it...
Means I can sneak in while I'm supose to be working and play a move or two..
I found this method a very good way to learn thud... kind of "you really didn't want to do that - how about going back three moves and taking it from there..."
I've also used it to talk a "newbie" through the game. kinda like "forming a shoving line attacking such n' such" to ease them in gently... well not scare them off completly.. I found It a lovely way to learn, I did lose quite a lot at the start but hay thats the way it goes...
Done!
) is at Forum Thud!
The newest section, by popular demand (Ok, it was 2 for, none against
Play Thud! on the forum just like before
Mind you, we will still be developing the online game for imminent release!

Hi!
Is there any preview, beta-test or something available for this online game?
Ciao, Marc.
Hi!

Ciao, Marc.
If there is, ditto me in. And thanks for providing a Thud Gaming Forum, as requested by Aine. I'm speaking for myself here, but I never got used to playing around a lot of Stamp collectors. A good forum for just Thudders is how it used to be, and how it should be!
Online Thud-game
Hi there,
I think the prospect of an online (free) thudding-game is excellent. I just hope the program doesn't work with "pre-installed" packages, which has to be installed on your computer (on which you log in into the game). If this is the case I have no possibilities to play Thud during working-times and I will have to work a full day
!!!, without doing something really usefull...
Grtz ,
Ygdrassil
Latest thudgame version is up for testing, please see the announcements forum for details
Ygdrassil is right: our main aim is to make a free version of Thud that's available to everyone. Three years ago when we originally envisioned it, it seemed that java was the obvious, universally portable choice, so that's what it's written in.
However, Microsoft and Sun appear to hae accidentally conspired together to kill Java as a browser programming language, so this is unfortunately outdated.
I'll be making other versions, though, in languages such as macromedia director, etc. I'll also be documenting the server dialogue, so that anyone who likes can make a client in any language they like.
