If you're replying to the first post in a thread there'll be a list of links at the bottom of that post like this:
quote | add new comment | prune | flag as offensive | email this page | printer friendly version | write to author | quote
The first "quote" link doesn't do anything, but if you want to post a comment without quoting the first post you click on "add new comment". If you want to quote the original poster use the second "quote" link.
If you're replying to a later post you'll get a slightly different set of options:
quote | delete | edit | reply | prune | email this page | write to author | quote
and here you use "reply" if you dont want to quote the post above, or the second quote option if you do...
NB you may not have exactly the same options as I do, since I'm a mod so I can do special things
, but it will still be the same links that you want to use.
