Hi,
This is a standard post. This is one game of Round One, Heat One of The International Thud Tournament 2007. Please see the topic line for who should be playing in this game. Good luck to both!
You should be playing two other games as well, as opponent to the two remaining players in your heat. Please find the other ITT07 threads that have your name in the topic line! And good luck with them as well.
Let me try to give a short list of the most important rules:
- Oograh Boike is referee for all ITT07 games, with Lee as a backup;
- this is not the only game you should be playing in this heat;
- immediately after this has been posted, the game starts;
- this game has to be standard rules and double unlimited;
- the 24-hour rule states that either one of you has to reply to this topic within 24 hours after first post[ *] with a first move;
- within 24 hours after first move, the opponent has to reply with his or her moves;
- within 24 hours after second move, first player has to reply, and so on and so forth;
- failure to comply with the 24 hour rule will result in loss of one point[ **] in first six hours after the deadline expires, another point loss in second six hours, and so on, untill another 24 hours have expired and the player who did not respond will be disqualified;
- the 24 hour rule stands untill both players agree on a score, whether that be the result of this forum game or an online game;
- this game will be closed and scored on april 11, 23:59 BST, finished or not. Next round will start the day after that.
If you have any questions, please feel free to ask me. Best idea would be to email me, since I don't have the time to be in thudgame all the time. You should have my email address, but when in doubt click the contact button on my site.
Happy Thudding!

[ *]I can't post several threads at the same time, so I started fairly early. Please consider this thread to be posted at 23:59 BST, march 28. Some of you will have a little more time than others, but all of you will have at least 24 hours.
[ **]Points, if necessary, to be deducted after the game has been completed.
PS: BST by the way, is British Summer Time, which is GMT minus one.

I think we're supposed to be playing doubles, so as to get it all done in two weeks. So you'll need to post a dwarf move to start the other half.
Re: ITT07, R1, Heat 1 - The Patrician vs Magrat
Sorry about that. Didn't read the rules properly, and now I am one move behind on each of three games.
Mea Culpa.

Re: ITT07, R1, Heat 1 - The Patrician vs Magrat
A term of endearment, I assure you.
Though, I'm pretty sure there's meant to be some rule against dwarfs running away when they should be standing still and being splatted. The anti-kumquatting rule of '06, or somesuch.
In the second half here, you can see me demonstrating this "standing still for splatting" tactic. I don't think of it as "throwing away points" - I think of it more as "helping to clean unnecessary dwarfs off the board".

Re: ITT07, R1, Heat 1 - The Patrician vs Magrat
Thank you: it seems to have worked out so far. The bait-dwarf at K12 filled a gap in my defensive line, but another was open at H12: had your troll advanced there, my block would be doomed. But the troll was lured from H12, so if I now defend K12, I form a line of protected points (J12/K12/L12/M12).
However, in the first-half game, you've managed the same, only better: a full 6-square defensive line, all the way from M6 to M11, in just two moves... I think I may be doomed in that half.

*whew* I left that troll sitting right next to a dwarf. You could have taken it. Can't believe NEITHER of us saw it...
Re: ITT07, R1, Heat 1 - The Patrician vs Magrat
For the first half, your thudboard seems to have put my move into your clipboard, rather than your own.
For the second half, I didn't see the dwarf there, since I'd assumed that when you typed "T K11 - J11", you implied "x J12" at the end of that. Since I moved with that assumption in mind (and since that's the version of the savegame I sent to OB), I've no objection to you retaking your last go if you like
If you'd rather not (after all, it was probably the best possible move, even if you didn't take anything), then:

Re: ITT07, R1, Heat 1 - The Patrician vs Magrat
d L2 - H2 Sorry about that.
You are very kind about the second half. Technically, capturing is optional, so I really should let that stand. but I agree, my next move would have been no different, and I really thought I had taken that dwarf. I was astonished to see it sitting there. So I will accept your offer, and let the version you sent to OB stand. Sorry about the confusion.
T J8 - K8
Re: ITT07, R1, Heat 1 - The Patrician vs Magrat
Well, neither of us noticed it until too late, and either way, all the moves were legal, the dwarf got taken, and the flow of the game was unaffected. So, "no harm, no foul" as they say.
In my game against Elerias, I did something similar, but it was a shoved troll that didn't take a piece... and that piece then took the troll. Since a shoved troll must take at least one piece, my move had been illegal. Since that was harm to the game, it was a foul, and I felt I had no option but to concede that half.
Which will be very interesting, since I don't believe there are competition rules for what happens if you concede just half a game.

(I may have just thrown away a valuable 1-move advantage to your northern block here, but it seemed worth it)

Re: ITT07, R1, Heat 1 - The Patrician vs Magrat
Hi Magrat, Patrician,
I have noticed that either yesterday, 10th of april, Patrician did not post, or today, 11th, posted late. Either way, it was late by a good nine hours, so I'm afraid I have to deduct two points from Patricians overall score for violating the 24-hour rule. I have sent him a message to tell him.
Also, I read that Patrician sent me some saves yesterday or the day before. If so, I did not get them. Could I have the saves by tomorrow noon BST please? Doesn't matter if it's Magrat or Patrician that sends them, as long as I get them.
Happy Thudding!

Hi,
As of now, no more moves will be accepted in this game. Could both of you please (agree on a) score (of) this game, and send me saves for my site? Thank you.
I will lock this topic tomorrow, after you have scored the game.

Re: ITT07, R1, Heat 1 - The Patrician vs Magrat
Okay, then, wrapping it up, I get for round one:
28 to Patrician, 25 to Magrat, so Patrician is up 3,
and round two:
28 all,
so Patrician scores higher by three in total.
That what you get? Thanks for the games. It was fun.
Re: ITT07, R1, Heat 1 - The Patrician vs Magrat
I am so terribly sorry to all players that I have failed in this way - not because I care about the score, but because they were all FUN GAMES, and stopping the game unexpectedly midway is just not fair to any of you.
Because of this, and because it's just NOT RIGHT that I could win on points by simply not playing, I resign any games in which I was ahead [this hay have been one, though I suspect the penalties would have wiped out that 3 point lead anyway].
I'd be happy to continue any of the games in a non-tournament kind of a way, if any of the players are interested.
However, I'm unexpectedly called away from the net for the next couple of days, so will be unable to continue until then.
